There are analogs in recent (relative) history that worries me. When an absolute dictator becomes unhinged but his closest associates FEAR him more than the potential disaster the decisions may bring. While many would think I am talking about Hitler, there are many more recent, in and out of an active conflict!
Mao Zedong, Joe Stalin, Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein all come to mind in their deadly escapades! The worry comes that almost all of them are/were narcissists, a psychological condition that has elements of sociopathy, especially where the actor has no care about the repercussions of decisions beyond the immediate goal(s).
