Chief Justice Roberts says leaked abortion opinion is authentic but not final, opens investigation

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said Tuesday that the leaked draft opinion proposing to overturn Roe v. Wade is authentic but not final, and that he is opening an investigation into how it became public.

“To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed,” Roberts said. “The work of the Court will not be affected in any way.”

While Roberts’s statement said the draft provided to Politico was genuine, “it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.”

Supreme Court is ready to strike down Roe v. Wade, leaked draft opinion shows The Politico report said that five justices had decided to uphold a Mississippi law that would ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, and overturn the decision that established a constitutional right to abortion nearly 50 years ago.

Roberts’s news release was another extraordinary deviation from the court’s normal procedures, which generally entails paying no attention to outside influences. It was a sign that Roe v. Wade is too important, and the breach of Supreme Court operations too monumental, to ignore.

Majority of Americans say Supreme Court should uphold Roe, new Post-ABC poll finds Republican politicians in particular have called for an investigation into the leak, which some have seen as an attempt to put pressure on justices who may be inclined to strike down Roe instead to modify their decisions.

I’ll bet my best set of black robes that it was leaked by someone on the left.

The purpose of this is to give the Democrats an issue for the midterm elections.

Politically this is a terrible time for the right to be bringing this up because it distracts from Biden's incompetence which is why I think Roberts himself decided to bring the case before the court and then to leak it

This is the best way to help the Democrats

It has become impossible to have a fair judiciary in America.

They are overrun by a bunch of crooks and extremist lunatics. You cannot continue a representative form of government when the laws are “made” by unelected judges who ignore the clear language of statutes and the U.S. Constitution.

You can’t elect people to govern when they are ignored by lifetime-appointed extremist-activists in robes who have seized power they were never granted.

You also cannot have a voice in government when elections are rigged as they are now in America.

Years ago I heard about a security audit where I worked. The auditor asked a guy to log into a particular system to verify some data. The guy stretched out his hand to a drawer on his desk ...

Auditor: “Are you reaching for the password that you have written down?”
Guy: “Uhhhhhhh ...”

They better check all the clerks from the R justices. Who else would have a reason to leak this to Politico? This could remain a mystery.

What would be an appropriate punishment?

I believe that any judge or justice has the unquestioned ability to lock anyone up for contempt of court for as long as it takes to remedy the contempt.

If congress has the power to lock up people freely admitted into the Hallowed Halls for a perceived slight, the Supreme Court has the same sort of authority for deliberate and malicious disclosure of privileged documents.

But only until the contempt is remedied, of course.

Hmmm. This will probably be a 5-4 decision, one way of the other. Roberts will side with the libs, either way.

Yes. From what I saw, you have: Thomas, Alito, Kavanaugh, Barrett, Gorsuch.

Not sure who they'd be most likely to flip with this leak. I'd suppose Kavanaugh, but I'm not an expert on their rulings. Roberts is long gone.

Not final.. I knew it. Chief Roberts to the rescue. The left can breath easier now.

My theory is that Roberts or someone on his staff leaked the opinion at the "request" of the Deep State.

Somehow I think one or more of the liberal justices “leaked” this information when they saw they would lose. If this is so and discovered, the leakers should ALL be removed.
