Responding to the Monday night leak of a draft majority opinion that, if adopted, would overturn Roe v. Wade, Republican Senator Susan Collins accused Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch of reneging on commitments they allegedly made ahead of their respective confirmations.
“If this leaked draft opinion is the final decision and this reporting is accurate, it would be completely inconsistent with what Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh said in their hearings and in our meetings,” Collins wrote. “Obviously, we won’t know each Justice’s decision and reasoning until the Supreme Court officially announces its opinion in this case.”

They pledged to respect precedent. Bad precedent deserves no respect.
Collins received 53% of the vote in 2020.
RCV only kicks in if a candidate receives less than 50% plus one vote.
50% plus one vote avois RCV in Maine for federal elections.
The federal government has no writ in the Constitution to impose by legislation a “right” to abortion. If the Dims want it to be “Constitutional” they have to get it into the Constitution by a Constitutional amendment, not by federal legislation and not by stealth via judicial fiat, which is what Roe was.
I used a paper ballot in Maine.
I hope you’re correct.
How many times has Collins lied pretending to be a Republican?
If Roberts votes with the majority, he selects who writes the opinion. He could write an opinion that would partially preserve Roe. It’s even possible that he initially voted against the majority to see how far the opinion would go. And then he could switch sides in order to soften the opinion- affirming the Mississippi law, and retaining abortion rights as a federal right, but narrowed.
No one promised to uphold Roe
“If this leaked draft opinion is the final decision and this reporting is accurate, it would be completely inconsistent with what Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh said in their hearings and in our meetings,”
THAT IS PATENTLY UNTRUE.
DESPITE what this hapless, deceitful, veiled leftist hag conned herself into thinking she could support with a confirmation vote, NONE of these Justices painted themselves into the corner she now claims they did. They were circumspect answering questions in the Senate, but their careful choice of words under hostile questioning by no means bound them to either overturning or preserving anything.
Collins and her ilk are WORSE than the Pelosis and Schumers of the Earth; at least they’re not playing tomfool games pretending to be what they’re not.
Too often, that jackass is the deciding vote on the Nation’s critical matters. I suppose she’s not happy about being irrelevant on this matter.
If a (decent) Republican became POTUS in 24 and the confirmation vote for a SCOTUS justice was close enough to need murk, romney, etc. and they survive 2022 and 2024 elections, those RINOs will be bombarded with “Kavanaugh/Barret/Gorsuch lied about abortion” messages. I think that’s part of the SCOTUS leak plan.
That’s a plausible part of the larger scenario, but I don’t trust any of that reprehensible RINO cabal any farther than I can see them clearly through the fires of the eternal, flaming Hell they’re heading for.
I well remember the deep and wide Romney purge of these forums; kicking the equivocating Romney apologists to the curb over their insufferable campaign to sympathize with the Devil because he showed up with an “R” on his lapel.
I don’t trust RINOs either. But terrified, angry women could be one more thing pushing them further in the wrong direction. At least that is what Dems are hoping.
In the land of the bureaucrats the Collins statement is officially known as CYA
Yes in 2026, I’m sure that will be front of the minds of Maine voters. She’ll be close to 74 years old and who knows if she’ll run again.
Imagine that, democrat susan collins accusing justices of doing what democrats do.
that too...
Earth to Collins…the SC is supposed to interpret the law according to the US Constitution and not kowtow to the whims of a loony senator…
