American Churches are Killing Christianity
American Thinker ^ | M.B. Mathews

[T]oday’s churches are increasingly offering the same get-out-of-hell-free cards the culture offers; whatever you do is good because you are being "true to yourself" and are "following your heart" and "your truth."

That is not Christianity; that is enhanced 60’s hedonism. Want to be gay? Why not? Want to be a woman, just shave, grow long hair, take hormones, dress up, wear padded bras, and join the Navy and the women's curling team. Want to mess with little kids? Have at it, but make sure parents don’t find out. Want to be an anti-white racist, a cop-hater, a Marxist, or a corrupt pro-Russia politician with a job that pays hundreds of thousands of dollars a month because daddy lives in the White House? Go for it. Want to make personal happiness your priority? Why not? After all, what is more important than being happy? Want to avoid being insulted or suffering any form of anxiety? We will move heaven and earth to give you that safe space. Want to shut people up you disagree with? Great, happy to close down our business or website because your delicate sensibilities are offended. Want to deny that Satan exists? Better still. In fact, best.

Too many of our churches have watered down Christianity into a church of cowards, too cowed to speak up. They are told that "Jesus would never behave that way." Jesus behaved exactly that way. He was strong, not wimpy. He got angry, He didn’t slink away when confronted with disbelief and evil. He challenged His followers to give up everything for Him, to be strong and courageous, not to wuss out. He went to the cross for fallen, sinful human beings and never shrank from His mission like many of today’s churches are doing.

Most mainstream churches in the U.S. are 501(c)(3). The Roman Catholics, the Southern Baptists, Methodists, and so on. They harbor illegals, and get a substantial amount of profit for doing so.

In his book, The Spirit-Filled Life, Charles Stanley tells a story of when he first came to the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. He said that there was a fiery meeting with church leaders who wanted him to stop preaching the unvarnished Gospel (or resign).

When Charles suggested that they all pray on this matter, one of the strongest and most outspoken lait leaders, a very successful lawyer, said angrily, "Charles, don't bring God into this...this is business."

"Would you say there is too much wokeness? 😀" Of the wrong kin, instead of

"Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. (1 Corinthians 15:34)"

Yes, wokeness of the wrong kind. I saw a video of First Baptist church, Orlando, with one of the most woke sermons I had ever heard. What’s even worse, the dude got a standing ovation, like the whole congregation was woke. If I had been there, I would have gotten up and walked out, right in the middle of it.

I've been watching the NBA playoffs (I hate TV, but love the NBA playoffs) and the new "He gets us" commercials make Jesus look like a woke Gen-Z wimp. Jesus was intolerant, uncompromising, and saw his mission to the very end. The current culture in America is terrible with a predictable terrible end.

Catholic Charities and the democrats are in bed with each other. Taxpayers are paying for church groups which serve as NGOs to bring in illegals.

It’s not just Catholic charities. Check out the evangelicals, the Lutherans, the Episcopalians.

They are ALL anti Christian. Just visit DC and drive be these churches, they all fly rainbow flags, BLM flags, etc. as left as you could possibly get.

They are not Christians, they are money grubbing communists.

Most of their so called clergy are filled with lesbians and homosexuals.

While those who most strongly esteem Scripture (evangelicals) have overall long testified to being the most conservative large religious group in the US, and oppose your list, yet many preach a salvation by faith in a promise, abstract from who and what the Lord who made the promise of a salvation by faith.

Meanwhile Catholicism has its own get-out-of-hell-free cards, that of faith in one's own worthiness and the power of their church, which manifestly considers even proabortion, prohomosexual public figures (Teddy K RCs) to be members in life and in death, while about half of Catholics testify to being liberal.

The redeemed are those who come to God as sinners knowing their desperate need of salvation - not as souls saved by their works or religious heritage but as destitute of any means or merit whereby they may find salvation (Romans 3:9 - 5:1) - and with a humble and penitent heart (that wants a new life following Christ, the Divine Son of God (see http://peacebyjesus.net/deityofchrist.html) believe on the crucified and risen Lord Jesus who alone can save them on His account, by His sinless shed blood and righteousness.

And who thus are baptized and follow Him ( (Acts 2:38-47; John 10:27-29; Acts 8:12; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-10) - and effectually repent when they find that they failed to do so. (Psalms 32:5,6; 51:3; Hosea 5:15; 1 John 1:9)

Such souls are of penitent, heart-purifying, regenerating effectual, obedient faith, (Acts 10:43-47; 15:7-9; 1 Thessalonians 1:3-9) which is imputed for righteousness, (Romans 4:5) and by which faith the believer is completely forgiven and "accepted in the Beloved" and positionally seated with Him in Heaven. Ephesians 1:6; 2:6; cf. Phil. 3:21) And wherever Scripture clearly speak of the next conscious reality for those who die in that effectual faith then it is with the Lord, at death or His return (whatever comes first), by the grace of God. (Lk. 23:43 [cf. 2Cor. 12:4; Rv. 2:7]; Phil 1:23; 2Cor. 5:8 [“we”]; 1Cor. 15:51ff'; 1Thess. 4:17)

Which is in contrast to those who do not accordingly believe in the crucified and risen Lord Jesus, (Romans 10:9,10) including those who terminally fall from grace, impenitently departing from the faith, drawing back unto perdition, making Christ of no effect, to no profit. (Gal. 5:1-4; Heb. 3:12; 10:38)

“… the blandness and ugliness of the physical building will often be met and exceeded by what is actually happening in it: People milling about in flip-flops and shorts, chatting loudly in the lobby and in the pews. A jeans-clad church band playing music too hokey to be secular but too secular to be sacred… Never a moment of solemn silence. Never a moment of contemplation.”

Wow. That’s disturbing. IIRC, that was about the time there was a big upheaval in the SBC when the modernists were trying to take over. It seems they go through that every couple of decades.

We attended an SBC church in the mid-’90s. The choir was practicing a number referring to “the blood of Jesus Christ”. The director was wondering if we should change the words, or not do that song, because “some people are offended by talking about the blood”. He had graduated from a pretty fundamental Bible college, and was in charge of the K-12 school. We ended up doing it.

We left some months later. That was an issue, plus a lot of CCM slowly making its way into the regular services. And they were starting to do merchandising (with nobody there to turn over the tables).

Lutherans, the Episcopalians are mainliners, and usually not classed as evangelicals, which, as said, have long testified to being far more conservative and unified in polled core beliefs and values than other major religious groups. However, the term - which was used in differentiation to the term "Christian," which itself became diluted - is increasingly becoming watered down. Time to refer to Traditional evangelicals.

My sister and BIL were looking for a church close to where they had relocated. They attended a Methodist church a couple miles away, and were liking what they heard for 3-4 weeks. Then one Sunday the minister decided to spend the entire sermon bashing capitalism. (I guess he figured that losers and lay-abouts footed the bill for the beautiful church building and grounds, and capitalists had nothing to do with it.)

The Mainline churches are run by liberals at the highest levels.
Examples are the UCC, Presbyterian Church USA, Methodist, etc.

I haven’t been to church in years and years. Not because of God, but because of people. It got to be too much. I was raised Catholic, and then went to a non-denominational church for years when I was older.

One pastor said, “Heaven is communism”. Then another said, “Even if Jesus is a lie, it’s the best way to live. And they also pushed/encouraged other things I didn’t/don’t like.

Altruism is not biblical. I’ve been looking into the Christian Orthodox Church, but there aren’t any around here that I know of.

This was all predicted with the parables of the sower, mustard seed, leaven and possibly fishermen... that the church from tiny beginnings would grow large and be filled with devils

"But the practical result of this principle is one on which there is no need of speculating; it works in one unvarying way. When error is admitted into the Church, it will be found that the stages of its progress are always three. It begins by asking toleration. Its friends say to the majority: You need not be afraid of us; we are few and weak; only let us alone; we shall not disturb the faith of others. The Church has her standards of doctrine; of course we shall never interfere with them; we only ask for ourselves to be spared interference with our private opinions.

Indulged in this for a time, error goes on to assert equal rights. Truth and error are two balancing forces. The Church shall do nothing which looks like deciding between them; that would be partiality. It is bigotry to assert any superior right for the truth. We are to agree to differ and any favoring of the truth, because it is truth, is partisanship. What the friends of truth and error hold in common is fundamental. Anything on which they differ is “ipso facto” non-essential. Anybody who makes account of such a thing is a disturber of the peace of the church. Truth and error are two co-ordinate powers, and the great secret of church-statesmanship is to preserve the balance between them.

From this point error soon goes on to its natural end, which is to assert supremacy. Truth started with tolerating; it comes to be merely tolerated and that only for a time. Error claims a preference for its judgments on all disputed points. It puts men into position, not as at first in spite of their departure from the Church’s faith, but in consequence of it. Their recommendation is that they repudiate that faith, and position is given them to teach others to repudiate it, and make them skillful in combating it." (pp. 195-196)

From: “THE CONSERVATIVE REFORMATION AND ITS THEOLOGY as represented in the Augsburg Confession and in the history and literature of the Evangelical Lutheran Church” by Charles P. Krauth, D.D. (1871). [Note date]
