My wife loves her Donbas hometown but will not be able to go back in the foreseeable future.

Interesting. Does your wife know why 3 Ukrainian oblasts (states) seceded after the 2014 ousting of Democratically elected President Yanukovich? Was it because Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk wanted to join the Russian rapists in another Katyn forest massacre?

Russian Army could have flattened them and the whole city 47 days ago.

If they'd dropped a nuke in it, sure. Otherwise, zero chance.

I think you have absolutely no idea how much ordinance it would actually take to flatten a city of that size.

“They’re turning in North Korea but with the resources of a continent. “

But with all the majors pulling out their oil and gas fields will start having problems and it will be very difficult for them to develop new fields. They have committed slow suicide economic. They miscalculated so very badly.

Putin, longing for the good old days of his beloved KGB,knows that there's nobody in the world today that he needs to fear.He will prevail eventually...if he has to kill every Ukrainian and see 250,000 Russian conscripts perish.

And in the on deck circle...Red China, with its eye on that nice little island on their south coast.

All the protestors in St. Petersburg and Moscow will either fly to Istanbul or Dubai and then flee to the West.

Conscripts? They are from peasant families in rural Russia. They're not going to protest so they will bleed for the motherland.

There is nothing in Putin’s history
or now to indicate a benevolent dictator for them.
This is Putin’s attempt to retake the area when nations left during the closure of the Soviet Block Russia in 1991.
Putin wants the mines! The mineral wealth of the area remains the same strategic prize that Adolf Hitler recognized during WWII.

Ukraine became independent again when the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991. This started a period of transition to a market economy. On 21 November 2013, then-president Viktor Yanukovych suspended implementation of an association agreement with the European Union. This decision resulted in mass protests by pro-Europeans known as the “Euromaidan” or the “Revolution of Dignity”. After months of such protests, the Ukrainian parliament IMPEACHED Yanukovych on 22 February 2014.

Then, on 22–23 February, the Russo-Ukrainian War Putin started another war when Russian forces invaded Donetsk, Luhansk &Crimea.

On 18 June 2015, Yanukovych was officially deprived of the title of president by the parliament. On 24 January 2019, he was sentenced in absentia to thirteen years’ imprisonment for high treason by a Ukrainian court.

On February 18, 2017 President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree for recognition of “passports” issued by the so-called DNR and LNR and other documents issued by so-called DNR and LNR in Russia. These “passports” were de facto accepted in Russia before the Putin’s decree. But, his decree made them officially recognized by the Russian Federation.

Luhansk people’s republic adopted the Russian ruble as its basic monetary unit on 1 March 2017. The ruble is the “official” “major currency” in both “republics” since 2015.
Most of the Ukrainian assets in the occupied territories were stolen by occupation forces in late 2014 and 2015.

Some remained under Ukrainian jurisdiction until 1 March 2017. These were taken by occupation authorities introducing external “temporary administrations” to the companies ie Luhansk branch Ukrtelecom telephone company.

The Russian pattern of “Transnistrian” policy controls zones of frozen conflicts in Moldova (Transnistria region), Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia), and in Ukraine annexed Crimean peninsula and the Donbas. Russia’s are part of a wider pattern using separatist conflicts to create corruption and criminality as ‘Trojan horses’ to block progress in reform-minded periphery countries.

IMPORTANT
In 2014, when the war in Donbas started, many of RNU members joined pro-Russian NAZI forces moved into Ukraine. During a telephone conversation OF Barkashov and a local Donetsk activist Boitsov was intercepted. Barkashov said to Boitsov that he could call off the referendum on independence of the territory.

Barkashov said, “It is NOT necessary to perform referendum the legit way. He said that in the end no one would care about it. All that Boitsov has to do is to write whatever he finds suitable. If he wants, he can say that 99% of people voted for joining Russia.”

“Ultimate victory will be where Putin ends up Russifying Donbas. I think it’s more likely that he’ll withdraw troops in shame.”

He will give the Russian militias in Donbas everything they want.

And those militias will finish off all Ukrainian loyalists.

Whether good or bad.

Not that simple. Ukrianians may counterattack if their upcoming offensive in Donbas fails. We saw what happened in Kyiv. We may see the same in Donbas if Russia has not adjusted their tactics. But my guess is that they'll adjust like they usually do.

“Your minds are twisted and ugly.”

Childish, hyperbolic outrage.

As if the people in Ukraine are known to you, or matter to any element of your life.

“Makes me realize you are worthless if we ever need to fight for our liberty. Worse than worthless.”

Have you served in the US military? Or, are you just another neocon chickenhawk?

Very interesting how you don’t stay on the points being argued. So now my military record is the issue, because I can’t care about Russian aggression or Ukraine unless we examine my combat experience?

And a chicken hawk is someone who wants to send others of their countrymen to fight, but they’ve never fought for their country.

So then a defeatist veteran would outranka patriotic civilian.

A lot of you are on here screaming about nonsense that has nothing to do with the issue.

You want to secure the Southern border? So do I.

You hate George Soros? So do I.

You despise the democrats and RINOs? So do I.

Somehow, Donald Trump agrees with all those positions AND he has denounced the invasion of Ukraine and called for far more military assistance to Zelensky.

These are not mutually exclusive positions. Most conservative Americans oppose Putin and support Ukraine.

And recognize that the childish cheerleading for Russian aggression is immoral.

For example, BobL’s insane statement that Russia is fighting my “Nazi friends”. That is bizarre and misguided.

The people on your side believe these crazy connections. That if I want to help Ukraine, I must be a paid agent of George Soros and have “Nazi friends’.

And now you assume I’ve never fought for my country.

I’m in the proud company of Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich on this issue. Two of our greatest conservative leaders.

And that little point about Trump and Gingrich is one you boys dodge every time.

I guess they are just “chicken hawks” and Nazi lovers?

It should have been over?

So you would have advised the UK to surrender to Nazi Germany in 1940???!?

Putin said that Ukraine was an illegitimate state and should not exist. He failed.

Putin said he wanted a demilitarized Ukraine. He failed.

Putin said he wanted a puppet Ukrainian government. He failed.

NATO didn’t poke the bear. The Russian eagle continuously has tried to conquer its neighbours.

And now it is getting its wings clipped.

The Ukrainians fighting and dying aren’t doing that for the west.

The Ukrainians aren’t fighting and dying for Zelensky.

The Ukrainians are fighting and dying for their homes and their loved ones.

Tomorrow if North Korea took over your part of your state, would you meekly surrender and watch them burn your home, rape your wife and kids and cut off your limbs? Or would you fight?

Russia is not a superpower and hasn’t been one since 1991.

We thought it was a first rate power, but after this debacle, it is clear that at best it is a regional power.

The heart of russia is Moscow. The Donbas had operations for the soviet union.

You post a 1930s map of the USSR to give justification for Putin’s invasion?

You raised the issue of fighting for liberty, I quoted you.

Now you call foul?

Laughable.

“The people on your side believe these crazy connections.”

NOBODY is on my side.

I don’t care about Ukraine, or what happens there other than as a study in geopolitics and Realpolitik.

And I enjoy calling out all the fake and/or hyperbolic outrage. As if there’s something special about Ukraine that does not apply to a dozen or more other countries over the last 20 years.

Which many of the same outraged were silent on.

What are you talking about? Putin used slavic meat. Putin sent Russian boys to die and to kill Ukrainians.

Putin and medvedev have constantly said that their aim is to absorb Ukraine into Muscowy.

The Ukrainians are fighting to resist that assimilation
