Zelenskyy warns of war in Donbas like 'the world has not seen in hundreds of years' as Russia masses troops for a new offensive on the eastern front

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday warned of fighting in Donbas that could result in the biggest war in centuries.

Speaking to the German newspaper BILD, owned by Axel Springer, Insider's parent company, Zelenskyy predicted intense fighting in the coming days.

"It could be a big war in Donbas — like the world has not seen in hundreds of years," he told BILD reporter Paul Ronzheimer.

"We will go on defending our country until the end," the Ukrainian president continued.

This chilling forecast echoes what Ukraine's foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba told NATO members on Thursday.

"The battle for Donbas will remind you of the Second World War," Kuleba said.

He used this warning to immediately call on Western allies to provide more heavy weaponry, including air defense systems, artillery, armored vehicles, and jets.

Trench warfare would be something not seen in 100 years.
***We saw it in the Iran-Iraq war. And then when we went up against the Iraqis using the same tactics, we just drove bulldozers right over their trenches.

One country invaded another sovereign country. There’s such a high duhh factor to this.

Your position is whackadoodle. The Rukes, the Ukes and the US all 3 signed an agreement to respect the borders and sovereignty of Ukraine. The Ukes HONORED that agreement, the Rukes VIOLATED it by invading twice, and the US is busy trying to find people like you who ABROGATE it just because you are wimps.

It is people like you that push countries into developing their own nukes.

Sadly.....this whole military operation could have been avoided had the US not pushed Ukraine into this position.
***That’s horse shiite. This war is about OIL & Gas Reserves.
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4050958/posts
The Russians weren’t even interested in eastern Ukraine until oil was found there. Their interest is simply in raping that country. Russia gets 60% of its revenues from oil exports. Europe gets 40% of their oil from Russia.
In 2012 massive oil and gas reserves were found in Crimea. Crimea signed a $10 billion exploration contracts with Shell and Chevron to develop the new found oil and gas fields. These oil and gas products would compete in Europe with Russia’s oil and gas, reducing Russia’s oil revenues, which we recall amount to 60% of their total GDP. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, cancelling the contracts with Shell and Chevron.

But Ukraine still had massive reserves in, you guessed it, Donetsk and Luhansk, and other areas East of the Dnieper River. In 2019, Energy Secretary Rick Perry visited Ukraine, and soon after Ukraine awarded exploration contracts to a consortium of U.S. oil companies. Again, these oil reserves would compete in Europe with Russian oil, so Putin is invading Ukraine to shut down this latest attempt to extract Ukrainian oil and sell it in competition with Russian oil.

This explanation makes more sense to me than the “Putin feels threatened by NATO expansion” excuses for the invasion.

If the Ukes allow some small region in the west to be its own republic, but the OIL belongs to Ukraine, do ya think Pootypoot would allow that? Nope.

But, no, the only time I take sides is when the US is under legitimate threat, or essential US interests are.
***It is an essential US interest to impede or even halt the proliferation of nuke weapons. We signed such an agreement between these 2 warring countries — one country HONORED the agreement, the other country VIOLATED it by invading twice.

This is the 2nd time St Zelenksy has invoked the ‘worse than anything the world has seen before’ refrain.
***Well, for his country it could be. But they went through the Holodomor and the NAZI invasion, so he might wanna narrow it down to “worst in the last 50 years sort of thing.

He didn’t say for his country. He said ‘world’. He is an ignoramus about world history or he deliberately uses histrionics to invoke garner support. Which is it?

Are Speedster and other neocons here getting the picture? The Ukrainians are getting their asses kicked. The bulk of their army is surrounded in Donbass with nowhere to go, just as I and others here have been saying for weeks.

And, if they die, solely be the fault of Zelensky and his puppet masters. They kept poking the bear and, then, refused to surrender and let the DPR, LPR and Crimea go their own way.

Out of curiosity, do you maintain the same do-gooder zeal for intervention in Yemen, Syria, Myanmar, DRC etc?
More atrocious activity there than Ukraine.
***They never gave up nukes in an agreement. That our president SIGNED. They don’t have nuke technology that would threaten to start WW3. They haven’t been invaded as sovereign countries by another sovereign country [hint: we assured that sovereignty]. They aren’t threatened by a Hitler Sudetenland wannabe.

Zelensky sold his soul and the fate of his people during the "perfect phone call" that led to the failed impeachment of President Trump.

Never forgetting that phone-call, which arose without any preceding context or narrative. The deep-state simply flipped a presidential kill-switch out of thin-air.

It skews my entire perception of Ukraine. If Trump were president today, and Ukraine had reset its corrupting influence with the US Deep-state, I feel the current situation and my perception of it, would be vastly different.

But Zelensky chose his side for better or for worse.

Or do we only look out for our own.
***That is kind of the Me First mentality extended to America, AmericaFirst. It is sort of utilitarianist in outlook.

I perceive that it is in AmericaFirst best interest to do what we can to reduce nuke proliferation across the globe. Hence, it was right for us to denuke the Ukes, assure their borders and sovereignty, and wrong for the Rukes to invade and take their oil & gas reserves.

Of course, as an AmericaFirster, I think we should be following the emBASEee strategee
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4050958/posts
and the Lend Leasee strategee, the BBudapest AAgreement LLend LLease approach which would take BALLs.

“The Rukes, the Ukes and the US all 3 signed an agreement to respect the borders and sovereignty of Ukraine.”

I used to wonder how ignorant of US Government somebody had to be to think that “agreement” had any official status whatsoever in the US.

I guess one has only to be as ignorant as Kevmo.

Nobody else in the US believes an agreement signed by Bill Clinton, against the advice of both houses of congress, and never submitted to either house for passage or ratification, binds any person or element of our government.

NOBODY but Kevmo.

If Ukraine thinks it’s in their best interest to build nukes, they should do so.

It’s not like anybody is going to stop them, right?

The Putin Perverts posting in this thread and many others are fully bought and paid for Russian assets. I’m not certain if they are paid by the post or the hour but either way they spend a lot of time posting Russian propaganda.
