PETER HITCHENS: The USA wants this war... so it can drive Russia back to the Stone Age
Daily Mail ^ | April 2, 2022 | Peter Hitchens

Posted on 04/02/2022 5:17:31 PM PDT by Angelino97

This is not a war between Ukraine and Russia. It is a war between the USA and Russia, in which both sides are cynically using Ukraine as a battering ram.

The people of Ukraine will gain nothing and lose much from being treated in this way. They fight and die or lose their homes and flee. We pour in more weapons and shout encouragement from a safe distance. Russia wrecks the joint. ...

I am sorry to say that there are people in the USA who will not be sad if this war drags on.

A ‘senior diplomat’ was quoted on Friday, by a commentator with ready access to the great and the good, as saying: ‘If you look at all the options, our strategic interest is probably best served in a long war, a quagmire that drains Putin militarily and economically so he cannot do this again.’

This is no doubt true. Since the American neo-conservative politician Paul Wolfowitz set out his ‘doctrine’ in 1992, Washington has wanted to crush any revival of Russian power. The flaw with this scheme is that it was, in fact, China that was the threat, not Russia. But there you are. Mr Wolfowitz, a keen backer of the disastrous Iraq war, is not as clever as he thinks he is.

It is this policy which explains the otherwise mad expansion of Nato, against the warnings of every qualified expert in the world. It also explains the taunting of Russia by President George W. Bush’s 2008 suggestion that Ukraine should actually join Nato.

This came just a year after Vladimir Putin, still more or less open to reason, said very clearly that he’d had enough and that Nato expansion should stop.

“Russia might have been our friend, had we treated Russia in 1991 the same way we treated Germany in 1945.”

We divided Germany up and occupied it. Germany didn’t have much choice about being our friend.

WWI would not have happened if the world had told Austo-Hungary: “Sorry Bosnia killed your Archduke. But we’re not getting involved.”

Austria-Hungary did not want the world involved. It was ready to take on Serbia on its own.

But Russia intervened to help Serbia. Then Germany intervened to help Austria-Hungary. Then France intervened to help Russia. Then Britain intervened to help France.

Bulgaria, Italy, the Ottoman Empire, and a few other countries joined in at various points to help one or the other side.

Austria-Hungary would have been fine with everybody staying home while it kicked Serbia's butt.

“Russia was never going to be our friend after Putin took power.”

Yeah, I’m having a hard time seeing that he would be.

Remember the Berlin Airlift? We fed, supported, and helped Germany get back on its feet after WW2. We could (and should) have reached out to Russia in the same way.

That is the problem…Term Limits and a fraud-proof vote. Only way we live…

“Driving Russia away from The West drives Russia further and further into the deadly embrace of China. That accelerates the problem of the growing power of China.”

Fully agree with your assessment. During the inevitable conflict w/china USA needs allies. Russia has so unique strategic location and other useful etc

Pretty much exactly how I view the situation. Globalists ruin everything.

“Putin is a monster, but the Russian people are not monsters, so the Russian people should not pay for Putin’s sins.”

They keep voting the monster in as their leader. They own the monster. Elections have consequences. The US did not elect Biden.

The longer I live, the more I want term limits of some sort for Congress. Senators may serve 3 terms, and then must bow out. McConnell has been there WAAAAY too long, as well as every Dem Senator. Joe Burden should never have had a 50 year career in Congress. Never. He’s a POS.

Representatives should be able to serve a maximum of 20 years.

Congress needs to be refreshed more often than it is. ALL of it.

A fraud-proof vote would be great, but I’m sorry that I think we are well beyond that now.

[Whew] Just back from Ukraine and putting my tanker coveralls in the laundry now..... Gotta make sure to take all the zip ties out of the pockets. Still have some left. There were not as many fascists hiding in their basements as I planned for but we had to rush out of Irpin due to counterattacks.

What do we do next to Make Russia Russia again?

I didn't know that The Smirking Chimp did that. What a jerk.

That to me is the biggest mistake people made after the fall of the Berlin Wall. They foolishly that communism went away. It just went into to hiding.

the Russian people should not pay for Putin’s sins. Russophobia is a bizarre poison pushed by warmongering globalists.

The Russian people are killing themselves. Crashing birthrate, highest abortion rate in the world and those who can get out are quitting the country. In 50 years, the Russian people won't exist in any meaningful way.

Driving Russia away from The West drives Russia further and further into the deadly embrace of China. That accelerates the problem of the growing power of China.

The only people with worse demographics than the Russians are the Chinese.

Imagine China with control over Russian land and Russian natural resources.

The goal is to bleed Russia dry, control their inevitable collapse, get rid of the nukes they have pointed at us for 60 years, and then control their resources for ourselves.

The Chinese are screwed. Their population will get cut in half by 2060. I doubt the CCP survives the decade and holds the country together.

The shortfall will be filled by moozlems. There must be something to it besides an attraction to sheep/goats.
