Russia has agreed to “fundamentally cut back” military activity around Kyiv and Chernihiv in order to “increase mutual trust” in a step towards a peace deal with Ukraine.
Russia’s deputy defence minister Alexander Fomin says Russia will "radically reduce" military activity outside the two cities, reports have claimed.
Mr Fomin said Moscow has decided to “fundamentally cut back military activity in the direction of Kyiv and Chernihiv” in order to “increase mutual trust for future negotiations to agree and sign a peace deal with Ukraine”, according to Russian news agency Tass.

No point and no need. Urban warfare is brutal and has a high casualty rate, and if some estimations of Russia’s primary war goals are correct, they’d already achieved them in the first week of the war - secure a water supply for the Crimea, secure the breakaway provinces, secure the resources off the Crimea. An additional estimation was that they don’t actually want the rest of the country but anything else they can secure with minimal additional risk is a nice bonus.
Keep in mind that one of the unmet goals of the war that got Russia the Crimea was the water source. Most of Crimea’s water comes from Ukraine, and after losing the Crimea they didn’t see a reason to keep supplying them… Not that it justifies the Russian invasion, but you can see why they did it.

Everyone paying attention knew what Russia would do. Multi-stage pincer ops. They learned it from the Germans in WWI/WWII. They jave implemented it into their doctrine.
Their goal is to gain full control and independence forthe Eatern regions, including Crimea, eliminate the Azov NAZI’s and their bretheren, and insure the rest of Ukraine stays neutral. While minimizing civilian casualties and infrastructure damage—unless they absolutely must while destroying NAZI’s.
They encircle, and ask for surrender. It’s what they do. It’s what they’ve done.
They have no interest in taking Kviev or Western Ukraine, but will threaten them and even surround them to reach their goals.
They could have destroyed the entire country and killed half the population if they wanted. They didn’t. They’ve purposely not cut off water, power, internet, etc in Western Ukraine, but could in 10 minutes. They’re NOT indiscriminately killing civilians, regardless of what the CIA fed msm tells you. Where are the thousands of bodies?
All of the previous they could do and wipe out Ukraine in a couple days, but they don’t.

Because they don’t want that area (Western Ukraine), and don’t want to get stuck rebuilding it either.

One of the benefits Russia was hoping for in invading Ukraine was to create division among NATO members, especially between the US and Europe (particularly Germany); and a good way to do that is via energy production and sales. Russia wants to be the dominant energy producer, not only in the East, but globally. It sees its biggest rivals in that regard as the US and the Gulf sheikdoms; that is why it has cozied up to Iran, because Russia sees the best way to affect the sheikdoms’ oil influence is to align itself — for now — with their main energy rival in the region: Iran. Russia already has close ties to Syria, which is also antagonistic towards the Gulf sheikdoms. Russia also seeks to be the main non-Gulf player in Iraq, a country with whom it has had close relations for decades.
Just days before Russia launched invaded Ukraine, Putin signed a wide-ranging agreement with Azerbaijan, deepening the diplomatic and military cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is home to the Baku oil fields. Coincidence?
Russia’s invasion of Georgia in 2008? Caucasus oil.
Russia is also claiming the entirety of the Arctic for its resources.
Energy is Russia’s focus, and it seeks to be the dominant energy player in the world. And it sure as hell will not suffer any competitor next door (i.e., Ukraine), no matter how small.

Kengor is trapped in the past and ignoring historical context. This isn't the first half of the 20th century, and Russia hasn't been invaded as it was in the World Wars.
Russia's last two wars were in Afghanistan and Chechnya. In both cases, casualties less than 1% of what they suffered in either World War were enough to make them back off.
That's not something particular to Russia either. We accepted massively greater levels of casualties in the civil War, and then in World Wars I II, than we were in Korea, Vietnam, and the wars in the middle east.
If you want to look at what casualties Russia might be willing to accept, it would be much better to look at Afghanistan and Chechnya than at either of the world wars.

No it wasn’t. But in the peace talks (i.e. terms for Ukraine’s surrender) Russia may allow Ukraine to be a EU member if it doesn’t try to get into NATO.
