Just think of who is for Ukraine:
(1) Soros (2) every democrat including Brandon 3) every republican neocon having orgasms at prospects of war with Russia...

Don’t want war with Russia but which nation invaded which? Are there Ukrainian troops destroying buildings in Russia?

Ukraine may well look like Germany after WWII in 10 or 20 or 30 days, I don’t know. But for Russia to ‘win’ this war they either have to take over all of Ukraine or get Ukraine to admit they’ve been beaten and surrender. For Ukraine to win they just have to avoid losing.

Army General Ranks:

1 Star: US Brigadier General, Russian Major General

2 Star: US Major General, Russian Lieutenant General

3 Star: US Lieutenant General, Russian Colonel General

4 Star: Both Countries just call them General

So this guy was a 2 Star, and the previous four killed were 1 Stars.

This guy was Russian Combined Arms Army Commander, about the equivalent of an American Division. What Russian calls a Division, is what America would call a Brigade or Regiment.

In the past, the Russian Major General rank was originally called a Sergeant Major General. They dropped the word Sergeant, but that is why the Lieutenant outranks the Major among the Generals.

I thought Russian Armies=US Corps
An Army of theirs usually has several Divisions.
That was true all the way to WWII, and the Chinese copied them.

They don’t look alike because they are not the same people. They’re two different generals that the Ukrainians killed.

The general on the top is Oleg Mityaev
The general on the bottom is Andrei Sukhovetsky

If you google Oleg Mityaev, his face is very similar to the picture on the top. In any case, 5 Russian generals have died in combat in this invasion so far.

Annualizing it, the combat loss rate is equivalent to 86 generals. This far exceeds other conflicts in which major powers were involved, even WW2, particularly when the relatively small size of the forces is taken into account. The USA lost 11 generals in combat in WW2 with much larger forces (40 total, included natural deaths, plane crashes, etc).

Note:

The guy just killed (CG of the 8th CAA) had two subordinate units. The Commanding General of one of those two units (150th MRD) was the last General Officer recently killed in the Ukraine. They are operating around Mariupol, where fighting is now in heavy contact - probably the heaviest.

The Russians probably really want Mariupol for its coastline (claim to offshore hydrocarbons) and a land link from Russia to Crimea.

They probably won’t be able to occupy much more (or any more) territory before their attack culminates, and they have to settle on peace terms (or possibly continue to fight a bloody retreat).

Russians don’t have something they call a Corps - straight from Division to Army level in their naming structure.

Russian formations are smaller as well. When you hear “Russian Tank Regiment”, rhino battalion strength.

Between Field Marshal and General is Colonel-general in most euro armies.

“Highest ranking Russian flag officer killed, to date.”

Also, at least one full four star General is under arrest back in Moscow, the Deputy Commanding General of the National Guard (Rosgvardia).

I never heard who the eight General officers were, that Putin reportedly fired, but the knives seem to be out, back at the Palace.

The head of the 5th Directorate (Foreign Intelligence) of the FSB (the artists formerly known as the KGB), and his Deputy, are both also reported under house arrest, after 20 locations of the 5th Directorate were reportedly raided.

Vlad wants more than Donbas. He wants everything south & east of the Dneiper and most of the Black Sea coast.

If the Russians had the rank of Colonel-General, I suspect they eliminated it, somehow thinking it would save them money.

Before I chimed in, I poked around on the internet. I found no information about any such rank in the Russian army currently.

This is what I found, starting from the op:

General Ranks:
Field Marshal (Currently an Honorary Rank)
General (Gold Shoulderboard/No Stars)
Liuetenant General (Two Stars)
Major General (One Star)
____________
Non-General Ranks:
Colonel/Brigadier

Pretty soon they will run out of generals and the grunts won’t know what to do.

Appears grunts don't know what to despite the generals they still have in command.

A Soviet Tank Regiment was about 100 tanks, and a battalion 31. Some Tank regiments even had four battalions (120+ per Regiment). I think the current Russian setup is about the same.

The Ukranian Army was going to be wiped out buying time. The real war will be between the militias and the Russian support troops. The only way to fight now is to draw the Russians into the cities and chop them up. It will be ugly.

I don’t think Russia wants to “occupy” Ukraine.
Russia does NOT want NATO on it’s border. Former comedian Zelensky was pushing for NATO membership since he came to power. He was misled by USA & NATO into thinking they would give Ukraine full support to become NATO member.

You probably too young to remember Cuban missile crisis. During JFK admin, Cuba became ally of USSR and was stocking up missiles. We did not want enemy weapons 90 miles from our border, so we INVADED SOVEREIGN country of Cuba 90 miles away by completely blockading entire Cuba and shut their ports down. It was nerve wrecking situation, with people afraid of starting WWIII. But Cuba wisely backed down and the missiles were shipped back to USSR.

Ukraine is not 90 miles from Russia border. It is right smack on Russia border. If Ukraine would have agreed to NOT seek NATO membership, the war could have been avoided.

Russia is stomping the place. You knew what I meant. I want civilians to stop suffering while at the same time avoid the west being drawn in.
