Consumer prices rose 7.9 percent in February

The Labor Department reported Thursday that the Consumer Price Index, or CPI — a broad basket of goods and services — continued to rise, increasing by 0.8 percent in February, or 7.9 percent year over year, on track with economists’ expectations.

Core inflation rose by 0.5 percent for the month. The core inflation metric includes prices of goods and services from rent to airline tickets to furniture but strips out food and energy prices, which tend to be volatile even when they are not rocked by geopolitical crises.

The prospect of inflation peaking would have been a welcome balm to jittery markets, but with sweeping sanctions crimping Russia’s energy exports, experts warn that higher — possibly much higher — prices are imminent.

“There is no evidence we’re seeing real moderation. Price pressures are broad-based and intense,” said Eric Winograd, a senior economist at the asset management firm AllianceBernstein.

The headline is one of those “accidental” truths that slip out from the MSM some times. 7.9% in one month sounds just about right - at least for food and gasoline.

7.9% x 3 is more accurate.

.. on track with economists’ expectations.

No, that is a mislead. Inflation is much higher than that.

I looked at some food recently, and put it back as I could not see spending that much for so little. If the GOP does not gain dozens of seats in November, the country is either nuts, or we were cheated again.

Gasoline up 150% in one year. Natural gas up 100% in one hear. Electricity up 50% in one year. Fertilizer set to triple this year and food increases will follow.

“Core inflation” of 8% annualized is utterly ridiculous.

Not looking good for all people.

And the givernment naturally will need to increase their spending to keep up with the inflation they are causing ... and need to increases taxes to cover the increase in spending to keep up with the inflation that they are causing ...

Yeah, core inflation doesn’t include food or energy, assumes you don’t have to eat, or heat your home, or travel I guess.

This catastrophe begun the day Brandon assumed office. This falls to the feet of the Dem party and the idiots who voted for them.

They rose to odd prices like $3.29. They never stay there. They’ll be up another quarter very soon. Soon everything that use to be $3 will be $4, etc. Then there is shrinkflation. The mega food corps have been very aggressive there, too.

The CPI is cooked and seasoned to taste.

Real inflation is significantly higher.

They must have worked real hard to keep the print from going over 8%, which it surely was.
