Former prime minister Sir Tony Blair has said in an interview that he thought his invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were the “right thing” to do at the time.

Blair, who served as Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007, seemingly attempted to justify his controversial role in the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq by saying that, at the time, he thought it was the “right thing” to do.

We defeated Saddam only to turn over most of Iraq to their (and our) enemy Iran

My problem wasn’t the invasions - it was fun kicking the Taliban out of power and Saddam deserved what he got for violating the agreement that ended the first Gulf War.

My problem was the ‘nation-building’, pathetic. In Afghanistan, we should have hunted down and decapitated the leadership, and then left. Similar in Iraq...replace Saddam with some other Hashemite, then leave.

A poll of the Iraqi people found that the peak of their support for the invasion was 35 percent. When the US left, it was all of 2 percent. Stash that in your Iraqi WMDs, Bush and Blair.

“ decapitated the leadership,…”

Reminds me of the Hydra organization in the Avengers films, kill one and ten more take their place. In some cases we can’t stack the bodies high enough, that sort of killing just makes more enemies.

They killed Saddam and Qaddafi so they could flood the West with jihadi "refugees."

Meanwhile Obama, Blair, Merkel and Macron opened the immigration gates to jihadists of every stripe.

Yes. If politicians would admit their mistakes, it would be a learning experience for everyone involved. And then maybe those mistakes wouldn’t be repeated.

But that won’t happen. Those people have too much pride, and too much ego.

Regarding your tag... perfect!

the stupid, it hurts!

We went thru 2 years of Covid fear mongering to the point of wearing face diapers and taking experimental poisons. COVID is replaced overnight with Ukraine. Literally - COVID disappears, and Ukraine pops up. And, seemingly almost everyone is buying it.

Hook, Line and Sinker.

In Afghanistan, we should have hunted down and decapitated the leadership, and then left.

The 'leadership' on the ground there was literally the CIA.

Afghanistan war as cover for placing CIA where money laundering, human trafficking and drug smuggling could easily take place.

Powerful Alliance forces ended Afghanistan, at the same time humiliating biDen and his sycophants with the $85B left in arms, abandoning US citizens, and leaving servicemen and women to the 'deaths'.

After we conquered Italy, Germany and Japan, we rebuilt them into free states and allies at tremendous expense.

The neocon theory, I guess is that we could do the same with Afghanistan and Iraq.

How could we not invade Afghanistan?

The Taliban gave aid and comfort to Al Qaeda, which murdered thousands of Americans and caused billions of dollars of economic damage to the USA.

Most Americans supported the invasions, then the nation building sucked and they changed their minds.

Can’t find many of those original supporters anymore. They’ve all changed their stripes.

Bomb the $hit out of Iran. Bridges, power stations, telephone exchanges. Keep the water clean. They’ve been at war with us since ‘79.

Next take the advise of a distinguished senator. Break off a piece of Iraq and call it Kurdistan. Continued fighting over neighboring Kurdish peoples in Iran, Turkey, and Syria will keep them busy and out of our business.

BTW-that ‘distinguished’ senator. Guess who?
