Despite widely-reported claims that 70 fighter jets were being provided to Ukraine by EU member-states, Western powers have now denied any plans of giving combat aircraft to the embattled nation.
The EU — alongside Slovakia, Bulgaria and Poland — has seemingly denied the possibility of providing the Ukrainian airforce with combat aircraft. This is despite initial widespread reporting that either the EU or a number of its members were actively in the process of providing fighter jets to the war-torn country, with the Ukrainian airforce even claiming that Poland would provide it with the use of its airports for “combat tasks” if necessary.
However, POLITICO is now reporting that these plans seem to have fallen through, with Europe’s Josep Borrell Fontelles — who serves as the bloc’s head of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy — being reported to have back-tracked on previous comments regarding the provision of fighter aircraft.
Multiple publications had previously reported that the EU was going to provide fighter aircraft to Ukraine as part of a package of military aid.
“We are going to supply … even fighter jets,” POLITICO claims Borrell Fontelles as saying during a press conference.
However, the Foreign Affairs head has since been reported as back-tracking on the comments, saying that the EU couldn’t afford to fund such ventures, and that aircraft would be donated “bilaterally” by EU nations instead.
Even those bilateral arrangements also now appear to have now fallen through — if they ever even existed — with all three nations supposedly involved in supplying the fighters being reported as denying any plans to provide Ukraine with aircraft.

I dismiss reports that Russia is somehow losing. I think they are being careful and slow. It’s been a week, they seem to be accomplishing what they want, despite the propaganda saying they are performing poorly.
I’m guessing that western nations are now withholding planes from Ukraine because it’s a lost cause, and the planes would just be shot down. Why waste the aircraft?
If you listen to CNN and MSN and read the New Yawk Slimes and the Compost, the Ukraine is kicking Russia’s butt without our help. Let them do it.
They had all theirs destroyed over the first two days. 70 more would last for one more day.

Ukraine is winning the propaganda war, at least in the civilized world.
I suspect, however, that Russian threats of escalation, along with the cost of fighter jets, has had them re-thinking their former commitments.
No offensive to the brave Ukrainian people : I don’t want to waste my tax dollars on protecting NATO politicians money laundering operations and sex trafficking industry.

They could really use some field level drone systems and the accompanying armaments. The Ukrainians do not seem able to hit static columns of Russian vehicles. They, despite their knowledge of the terrain, don’t even seem to be able to mortar or send in sappers the way the NVA and Viet Cong did in Vietnam. All the propaganda and combat porn posted on social media and the internet fails to illuminate or inform what is really happening.

The matter has not been settled. Poland is still deciding.
Ukrainian pilots are currently in Poland, New Lines can confirm, following reporting by Yahoo! News. But they are there not for training purposes but for “consultations” with Warsaw on completing the relevant paperwork for a possible handover of aircraft, according to a former high-ranking Polish military official, who added that “no decision at the political level has been made” as to whether this transaction will occur.
That source also told New Lines that Poland has 28 MiG-29s it could deliver to Ukraine, and R-73s short-range air-to-air missiles, all of which would be of enormous use to Ukraine in its war against Russia. Some Polish aviation experts think that, in reality, only 23 of them are operational.

Putin rightly calculated that for all the foot stomping by the west, they are impotent and weak. The rest of our adversaries are surely taking notice.
People got so used to the US not objecting, much less taking action against these acts of war.
Russia would not.
