Ottawa police chief Peter Sloly has resigned, sources confirmed to CTV News Ottawa.
Sloly's resignation comes amid criticism of his handling of the ongoing trucker protests in downtown Ottawa.
The protests have reached day 19, with demonstrators encamped on Wellington Street and the surrounding area and showing no signs of leaving.

You wonder when Justin is resigning, but mind you since Freeland has been the one really running the show the last while, what sort of difference would that make anyway?
Sloly told people around him that he was trying to avoid bloodshed like the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol in Washington.
He doesnt want to shoot an unarmed protestor. Thats a good place to start.

My impression of the guy watching his pressers was that he was itching to kill somebody. A psycho cop.
He’s probably one of the “good” ones. It’s why he’s being replaced by Mounties. Let’s see if there are any good Mounties.

Could be he’s getting pushback from the cops on the line. I’ve watched many, many live videos where the protesters relentlessly shame the cops and face them down. That has to be working on the cops’ heads.
Sloly thought about it for a minute and decided, “Nope, I won’t be Castreaux’s Che Guevara.”

If nothing else, it would be kind of nice to see him humiliated and lose that smug expression.
