This case hinges on the DNR. If the daughter had a living will, the DNR was probably in that. If there was no DNR , they should sue the hospital.
It’s standard operating proceedure to withhold care (this includes antibiotics, fluids or treatment for overdoses) when someone has a DNR or living will.
I’ve seen it in three states and I’d guess these same procedures are everywhere.

I just came home from the hospital after three days for a heart cath and stent. The hospital doctor, who I’ve never seen before, told the nurses NOT to give me the meds that have kept me alive for 25 years...atenolol, lisinopril, potassium. My bp went up over 200 and I damn near went into v tach. The crew in the heart cath lab was appalled that I wasn’t given my meds for 48 hours. Fortunately, a doctor from my regular cardiologist group came in and straightened it out after the stent was implanted.
You’re not a patient of the hospital, you’re a bounty to be collected.
I wonder if the hospital coded her as DNR because she was mentally handicapped?
I think people who sign DNRs assume that they will come into effect when they are brain dead, rather than withholding life-saving medicine during routine, but serious, treatment.
with the frontline early treatment meds, protocol and home ox i kept us all out of the hospital including my elderly mom.
for this to happen in America, is unconscionable.

I no longer trust my doctor OR hospital and will revisit my Will for any DNR language; perhaps change it to make it abundantly clear I don’t want the SOBs anywhere close to being involved in that decision. They are NOT to be trusted.
The CARES Act suspended patient’s rights. I have been working as a nurse advocate for COVID patients, along with some other nurses. I cannot believe the medical tyranny I am witnessing.
Most likely, the hospital made her a DNR without anyone’s consent. This is happening on a widespread basis.
My advice to people is to get the necessary meds & supplements to treat yourself at home. This incudes finding a Telehealth provider who will prescribe home oxygen if you need it. Avoid the hospitals as much as you can....they’re literally the killing fields.
Hospitals have been trying to be the final arbitrators of DNRs for the elderly, and the disabled. It was an issue that was fought by Dr Dobson and the family research center years ago.
We apparently lost because I am hearing of a number of people who have been sedated to death.
The young woman had Down syndrome, which may explain too much. St Elizabeth’s seems to have been founded as a Catholic hospital.

Perhaps the most long lasting effect of this pandemic will be the almost complete loss of respect that people will have for doctors and the medical establishment once this is over. Their ranks have been thoroughly cleansed of all the healthcare workers who truly cared about their patients. All that are left now are swindlers, psychopaths, and incompetents who will always put profit and quackery before the lives of their patients. Their lies and schemes are now being exposed in a way that people will never be able to forget. Their corruption and maliciousness will not be forgiven.
