After a long and often unpredictable search for a new head coach, the Texans have found their man, announcing a deal with former Bears and Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith on Monday, after CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones and CBS Sports HQ's Josina Anderson reported the sides were finalizing a contract. The 63-year-old Smith, who spent 2021 as Houston's associate head coach and defensive coordinator, only recently emerged as a candidate for the Texans' vacancy but outlasted reported finalists Josh McCown and ex-Dolphins coach Brian Flores for the job.

Brian Flores lost again, to a Black man. Maybe it's not his skin color, maybe it's just him.

Aaron Rodgers is building a home in TN. He’s leaving CA. Rumor has it that he’s said he wouldn’t mind playing for the Titans. (Can they afford him? Probably not.) I like the Titans, right after the Packers.
Wonder if he knows Lovie?
So much to speculate over, now that we’re not Superbowl Bound. :(

And thanks to the Flores and Kapernicks of the world, all (including his players)will wonder if he was hired because of an ability to coach.

I don’t like Flores as a coach, his slow starts killed any playoff chances. But the Owner and GM for the Dolphins are scum and likely tanked Flores first season. The trade and coaching decisions they made looked like they never wanted a winner.

Very few coaches regardless of skin color get a chance with 3 different teams.
The only issue I have with this hire is the same issue I have with all coaching hires regardless of skin color.
I would rather see someone who had never been a head coach before getting hired versus a retread

That's the tragedy of affirmative action, quotas and such.
People of color who are eminently qualified for a job will always be under a cloud. Did they get the job because of their ability or because of their skin color?

I’m sure the phone lines at the Texans Ticket Office are ringing off the hook with people wanting to buy season tickets.

But, as they say in France, C'est lovie!

And so, when the Texans go 1-15 next season, Lovie will blame it on whitey.

Once he filed that lawsuit he pretty much wrote off his NFL future. I suspect he’s angling for a large cash settlement and will then coach at some obscure college program for the next 25 years before retiring.
