Most kids I know can read at a third grade level before they start kindergarten. Though they have parents of privilege who have unfair access to kids books at the 99 cent store.

I work at a place outside the city and all hourly hireS are tested for basic reading and math skills before hiring.
shocking how many fail.
Don't laugh. That's better than their elected representatives.
I am still looking for that successful and thriving black majority, black lead American city.
It is as rare as any successful sub-Saharan African country.

Effectively this mean that most of the graduates can’t read the diploma they receive.

Wow... they’re doing far better than I thought.
About 1852, public school became mandatory in Massachusetts. The kids had abou a 70% illiteracy rate.
Now, we spend 1.3 trillion a year on public education, 13 million at this school alone, and have a 77% illiteracy rate.
Big education has failed, big. The reason…..in my humble opinion, the parents belief in government to do the job and lack of incentive of parents to participate.
You have to wonder what % extends to the teachers?
No problem, the Communist Chinese will find a use for 'em.
Do you think any of these parents care at all about their child’s education?
Bigger question. How many of those kids actually HAVE 2 parents at home.
Do the teachers read at the first grade level?
