Biden offers Russia access to NATO bases to ease Ukraine crisis: report
New York Post ^ | Feb. 2nd, 2022 | Mark Moore

The White House has reportedly floated an offer to Russian President Vladimir Putin to allow Kremlin access to key NATO bases in exchange for Moscow de-escalating tensions over its military buildup on Ukraine’s border.

The proposal would also involve discussions about Russia verifying that the US has not deployed Tomahawk cruise missiles to bases in Romania and Poland, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.

The reported offer would be contingent on agreement from US allies, including Romania and Poland, while Russia would also have to provide similar information about bases with ground-launched weapon systems.

The overture reportedly is intended to ease Putin’s fears that the US could target Russia with the missiles.

So just let Putin roll up Eastern Europe like he’s demanded?

I’m more than convinced there is something else at work here. Like they’ve already made a deal and this stuff is more for show.

Ignorance. It is not about whose missiles they are.

If Poland and Romania have security concerns, being former slave states of Russia/Soviet Union, it is their prerogative if they choose to have military assistance from anyone. If Russia wants to claim it is an “American” threat, while ignoring its missiles and other military are considered a security threat to some in Eastern Europe, and you want to swallow that propaganda, go ahead.

Very well could be. Remember those Summits with the Soviets, that always somehow turned out to have those last minute agreements, when everything looked bleak? Those were all theater, everything was agreed to beforehand.

The Ukraine situation is one of the greatest geopolitical confrontations in recent memory. This is not really about ideology or Ukraine’s sovereignty; its more about regional control of resources and the reclamation of Russian influence.

How the U.S. reacts is also a matter closely related to Chinese expansionary objectives in Asia. Thus America is playing two very consequential games at once.

Both Russia and China recognize this moment of particularly weak leadership in the U.S. There is no way they will let this once in a lifetime opportunity slip by without taking full advantage of it.

We will be living in ‘interesting times’ this year. The U.S. will be challenged on a global scale.

If true, it won’t solve the issue. NATO, etc. is just a bugaboo that Russia invented to justify it’s invasions, annexations, destabilizations, and armed conflicts with it’s neighbors. Aggressive Godless commie bullies do what they gotta do.

Russia is always expanding or contracting. It cannot exist in stasis ~Kissinger.

You are buying Blinken’s denial, where he is trying to talk hair when the head is at stake.
Russia is obviously not going to nuke Europe because her defense doctrine is based on MAD, Europe is not a side to, not counting the American strategic infrastructure there. Poland is not capable to threaten Russia on her own.
It is the essence of Putin’s ultimatum. He is essentially threatening CONUS, but Blinken is playing idiot and trying to downplay it into the Ukrainian issue.
It was, is, and always will be about the strategic balance between the US and Russia. Everything else is irrelevant and a distraction.

China is watching Biden’s lame, bumbling ineptitude and you can be certain they are taking notes. Biden is all over the place like a rudderless ship.

Our allies are watching this clown show as well.

B.S.

The only real “balance” issue is NOT U.S. vs Russia, it is Russia vs Western Europe; which the U.S. via NATO is pledged to help protect. Putin wants the U.S. to pretend its just about MAD and Russia vs U.S. while it maneuvers “conventional” forces to threaten/pressure Western Europe. That’s what the build up next to Ukraine is about. Poland and others are having none of it; they know Putin’s game.

Your take obviously doesn’t make any sense. Cui bono? What is the point for Russia to attack Western Europe? Western Europe is Russia’s main trading partner. To have a war with it is the last thing Russia wants. What is the evidence to the opposite?

Russia was Germany’s biggest trading partner before Operation Barbarossa.

Well, OK. What is the US National Interest? Aside from alleviating your desire to get into a war with a nuclear power?

I am all for Europe getting involved. But they are aren’t. Not my circus. Not my monkey.

If you want to get worked up over stuff going on in Asia, feel free.

I understand the parallel, where Europe would like to grab Russian resources nowadays but it was a bridge too far in 1941, more so today.
Was Stalin planning an incursion into the West or not, we’d never know, but he was generally against the Trotskite expansionist Marxism. I can imagine why he wanted to, but no reasons on Putin’s part. There are no real ideological differences between Europe and Russia today. Do you suggest that Putin is going to invade to stop gay marriage?:)

From my understanding, Stalin was going to attack in 1943, when he felt he was strong enough to do so.
