I understand the parallel, where Europe would like to grab Russian resources nowadays but it was a bridge too far in 1941, more so today.
Was Stalin planning an incursion into the West or not, we’d never know, but he was generally against the Trotskite expansionist Marxism. I can imagine why he wanted to, but no reasons on Putin’s part. There are no real ideological differences between Europe and Russia today. Do you suggest that Putin is going to invade to stop gay marriage?:)
From my understanding, Stalin was going to attack in 1943, when he felt he was strong enough to do so.
Maybe we can give Russia access to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan..
