Tom Brady can be defined by this one word
FOX News.com ^ | February 1, 2022 | Michael Levin

I’ve spent exactly 25 seconds in the company of Tom Brady, during a grip-and-grin moment at a Tony Robbins event. He and his then Patriots teammate and receiver Julian Edelman were posing for photos with gobsmacked attendees. My twin 14-year-old sons and I were waiting our turn.

When we stepped up for the photo, Brady unconsciously put his arm around the shoulders of one of my sons. To me, the gesture spoke volumes about who Tom Brady really is.

A lot of fans despise Brady, perhaps because he’s so successful, and in our society, we love to tear down those who excel. Some fans of other teams hold grudges against Brady because he beat them again and again. Others see him as a cheater and a fraud (witness Spygate and Deflategate).

I’m not going to relitigate those issues; I will say that most people with real knowledge of the Patriots’ two "scandals" agree that Brady had nothing to do with either.

To me, Brady is a well-raised individual who holds himself and those around him to higher standards than most of us would ever hold ourselves. His success is a function of those high standards, not just good genes or good coaching or good looks or good luck. Tom Brady is simply better at football than most of us are at whatever we do, because he expects more of himself than anyone else might.

The Brady myth centers on his keeping a chip on his shoulder because it took so long for him to become a starter at Michigan and because he was drafted 199th, in the sixth round.

Too many people are just jealous of anyone who is successful. All I have is respect and admiration for Tom Brady. Ran across a quote a few years ago that does a pretty good job of describing the manifestation of this kind of jealousy:

“People try to rain on your parade simply because they have no parade of their own.”

Often times, human nature is just plain ugly.

If my wife made as much as Gisele, I’d retire, too.

"Strange?"

As in unusual.
It seems like a simple formula, but not many famous people seem to know it.

Interesting point about the Giants vs. Patriots over the years:

I've seen it suggested that the Giants were successful against the Patriots because NYG coach Tom Coughlin and NE coach Belichick both worked as assistants under Bill Parcells back in the early 1990s. As a result, Belichick never had the mystique or intimidation factor in his favor against the Giants like he did with most of the league.

Just an interesting thought ...

To think at one time both GOATS were in Cleveland.

I can believe it. It’s amazing some of the things Belichick does just to get into the other coach’s head. Like he’s the only coach I’ve seen decline a delay of game penalty. You see that when a team is just on the + side of the 50 but punts, often they’ll let the clock wind to take the penalty and get 5 more yards to play with to avoid the touchback. Do that against the Pats and Bill declines the penalty. Nobody declines that penalty. I don’t really think that 5 yards makes much of a difference one way or the other. But the act of saying “you can’t have it” is a very effective message.

Don’t know why the word “envy” did not pop into my head. You nailed it.

I think Brady pushed the limits to get any and all advantages. Deflating footballs is one of those times and in that case, he went to far. Overall, I think he’s one of the good guys.

The Giants beat him twice, and most Giants fans don’t like him either.

Well, I like him for the fact that I have no idea where he stands politically or on the vax’d etc etc. He also made a point after games to make an appreciative post on Instagram highlighting fellow players. That’s about all I know about him😀

I saw that football game against the Colts.

If Brady played with a deflated football in that game, it didn’t work. The Patriots sucked in the first half of that game against the Colts.

The Patriots came to life in the second half when the ball was supposedly replaced by a fully inflated football....the Patriots scored touchdown after touchdown in that second half.
