Trump says he has ‘very good relationship’ with DeSantis amid rumors of feud

Former President Trump dismissed rumors of a feud with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is seen as a potential contender to become Republican’s 2024 presidential nominee, telling reporters on Wednesday that he has “ a very good relationship” with the Florida Republican.

His comments come in the wake of a recent Axios report stating that Trump has privately told confidants the Florida Governor has a “dull personality” and would face an uphill climb in beating him in a primary. Recent surveys show DeSantis has recently seen an uptick in the polls in a hypothetical 2024 primary, tightening the margin between a potential showdown between him and the former president.

Neither of these guys is stupid, certainly not politically stupid. There is no lift for either of them to start or wage a feud. I’m not buying it.

It’s not ridiculous to say that Trump is a New Yorker. Indeed, for a generation or two, the man was practically synonymous with New York City.

But I just can’t quite see him changing residence for the purpose of accommodating someone else on the ticket. Trump is the “alpha,” but to essentially act like it’s so important to have Desantis as VP on the ticket that Trump is willing to change his residence to accomplish that, well, it’d be kind of a situation of the “alpha” deferring to the “beta.”

Amazing how some fell for the Fake News stories so quickly.

You think he plans to run from Florida next time? Trump is a New Yorker.

Well, he ran as a Floridian in 2020, so, yes, I would expect him to do the same in 2024.

I think that just about every Twitter firing during the Trump Administration was preceded by some sort of statement saying how well Trump was getting along with the person being fired.

We'll, seems to me the only voters who would even potentially penalize DeSantis for feuding with Trump would be GOP primary voters. And DeSantis is at no risk of not being the GOP nominee.

In fact, being perceived as being at odds with Trump might even help him a bit in the general election.

Yes and no. The Constitution prohibits that, but the prohibition would be easily circumvented by Trump changing his state of residence.

Can't imagine DeSantis would give up the governorship to be Trump's VP, though.

i’m not talking about 2024...

desantis is running for reelection for florida governor this year (2022)...

what is happening now has enemedia ploy written all over it to derail the reelection of desantis as florida governor...

people who don’t live in florida don’t know this and are too focused on the 2024 presidential campaign to listen and realize it...

I know that you’re talking about 2022. I just don’t see how these rumors hurt DeSantis’ chance to be re-elected. If anything, the rumors that he is not beholden to Trump might actually help him among swing voters.

DeSantis has time. If Trump runs, great. If Trump doesn’t run, it’s because Trump is supporting DeSantis.

They lost me on “behind-the-scenes”. Has the old “anonymous sources” meme gotten old?

Florida needs DeSantis. Just like SD needs Noem and Virginia needs Youngkin. Presidential aspirations can wait.

Trump didn’t deny the reported statements, which suggests the Axios reporting was accurate.

And he’s still backing McCarthy, which is akin to his still playing golf with (and taking the advice of) Graham.
