"Texas Governor Greg Abbott is facing a potential defeat in the Republican gubernatorial primary, according to a new poll carried out for one his GOP opponents.
A Paradigm Partners poll published on Tuesday shows Abbott with just 32.52 percent support among likely Republican primary voters in the state, behind former Texas GOP chair Allen West on 38.36 percent.
The poll was conducted for West's campaign and differs starkly from other polls published late last year that appeared to show the Republican primary race was uncompetitive."

EXACTLY - and not that it matters to many here, but I know who Beto wants to run against, and it’s not Abbott.
You do realize Beto won the native Texan vote. Cruz won the vote of Texans not born there.
I will cast my vote for Abbott. West is all for show, not much different than Beto. While the rest of the country complains about suffering under covid restrictions, people in Texas have been living a normal life. Our kids were in school, we didn’t suffer under mask mandates. Last night I was in Kroger and the loudspeaker was blasting that masks had to worn in the store. Everyone ignored it. Only about 10% of the people wore masks and they were probably California transplants. Abbott is right in step with Desantis only reason Desantis is more visible is because he might be presidential contender in ‘24.
Alan West is 60 years old. He wins and it sets him up for 2028. Think about it. Beto needs a bitch slapping and West would be the best one to do it. He only has to get past Abbott who’s already served 2 terms. That’s enough.
I don't believe it either. I know West is popular here, but I see him as something of a loser politically. He was a congressman for one term and was not re-elected. He says the right things on talk shows and in written columns, but has not proven that he can win elections. Abbott may not be a true conservative, but he plays one well on TV and is more popular than he probably should be.
Abbott had studies from eight years earlier that said the hardening had to be done, then he put cronies from around the world on the very council that decides the RELIABILITY of energy for Texas. They, of course, worked to restrict all fossil fuel sources and increased windmills for winter use.
Other governors would not be that stupid. Abbott is a special kind of stupid and should not be reelected.

My sentiments exactly. Abbott toed the totalitarian socialist line over Covid, far too much to suit me. I have supported West in the past and admire him now, but Beto would destroy Texas. The choice between Abbott and West will be a hard one.
I don’t believe any poll that appears in Newsweek, though.
If senile Biden can pull in enough votes (honest or dishonest) to defeat the best president since WWII, you bet Beto can defeat anyone in Texas. Our elections are worse than the banana republics.
Beto is a glib talker on the campaign trail. I have not seen much of colonel West on TV lately, but from what I recall he was always serious on TV interviews. Does he have charisma anything close to PDJT? West needs to smile more, appear more relaxed on TV. Keep in mind 90% of voters are not political junkies. Many vote based on likability. My wife is one of them.
What most non-Texans don’t realize is that the Lt. Governor position is actually where it’s really happening. That race is key and shouldn’t be dismissed lightly.
Many of the womens here love him, especially the young ones. I don’t understand it. It makes no sense.

This has been incredibly short-sighted and is why Texas is moving toward the left.
Every corporation that moves to Texas takes its HR department and associated woke BS with it, as well as clueless employees who think the enemedia is the last word in truth.
The PUC’s mission is to “protect customers, foster competition, and promote high quality infrastructure.”

Texas Grid Operator Sued By 131 Insurers, Now Facing ‘Dozens’ Of Lawsuits Over Blackout
Eleven months after the near-meltdown of the Texas electric grid, the state's grid operator, ERCOT, is facing “dozens” of lawsuits over the disaster. While the outcome of the litigation is uncertain, Texas ratepayers could be forced to pay for any legal judgments against ERCOT, which could total billions of dollars.
Those billions will be piled onto the billions of dollars in debt incurred by the state's utilities during last February's deadly blizzard. Last year, the Texas Legislature agreed to securitize much of that utility debt. Texas ratepayers will be repaying that debt through surcharges on their monthly bills for years to come.
Now back to the litigation. Last week, 131 insurance companies filed a lawsuit in Travis County District Court against ERCOT and about three dozen electricity generators, claiming that they are to blame for the power outage during Winter Storm Uri. That storm caused some $200 billion in damage and left about 700 people dead.
All of that crud is solely on Governor Greg Abbott.
