This week, some 700 unvaccinated Mayo Clinic employees lost their jobs because they did not agree to take the COVID-19 vaccine or did not receive a medical or religious exemption. In addition, an unknown number of Mayo employees have already quit or retired to avoid being fired. The move comes as hospitals throughout the country struggle with a surge in hospital admissions combined with severe staff shortages.
Mayo, like many corporations, is between a rock and a hard place due to President Biden’s federal vaccine mandate. They have been put in a uniquely difficult position because their multistate clinic is often relied upon to develop and promote government public health policy.
For decades, Mayo has provided trusted medical advice to the country and world. At a time when public trust in the federal government’s ability to lead the pandemic recovery has eroded, we would all benefit from Mayo’s leadership in realizing that they made a mistake in terminating these frontline workers.
Like many local elected officials, Minnesota state Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R-21B) began hearing from constituents who faced a real conundrum: get vaccinated or get fired. Drazkowski’s constituents are some of the 47,500 employees of the Mayo Clinic, his state’s largest employer.

large quasi-state-run politicized bureaucracies that have gone woke always suck. Going woke is a sign of institutional rot. It probably sucks to work there.
There is a much much bigger number of people who didn’t want the vaxxine but decided to gamble on their health just to have that good paying job.
I was a patient advocate recently for someone at the Pittsburgh University Medical Center (UPMC). Because they had told me they did NOT want the vaccine, I asked about the policy.
I was told by a doctor that UPMC does not have a vaccine mandate. UPMC employs 92,000 including 1,600 physicians to staff forty hospitals and clinics.
Couple of reasons. 1) Many of these folk made a firm individual decision not to be vaccinated. Many probably had contracted COVID and recovered, thus becoming immune. 2) Many were probably tired of their jobs, accepted being fired, collect unemployment, take a rest and then if they are competent good people find another job. There is a dearth of good talented people to hire. Evetually the Mayo Clinic like other woke institutions are finding that to remain profitable and efficent, they end up hiring these folk back if they can.
That would be telling....
And THIS government is spending the bulk of its time trying to figure out what that one unstoppable threat/coercion is that will force the unvaccinated to submit to a mandate for which they have no real authority.. It is criminal, IMO.
