~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~

~ FReeper Canteen Salutes The Seabees ~ Remembering Our Troops!! ~

Navy Construction Battalion

The Navy Construction Battalion – better known as the Seabees – is responsible for building much of the temporary and permanent infrastructure at U.S. military locations around the world. With roots dating back to World War II, the Seabees were formally established on March 5, 1942, to meet the Navy’s growing need to build bases, camps and other structures as part of the war effort. In the over seven decades since its founding, Seabees have gone on to serve in most major U.S. conflicts.

Canteen Mission Statement

Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies' military
and family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

True To Their Motto, Seabees Can Build Just About Anything, Anywhere!

The men and women of the Seabees have been deployed globally in every theater around the world constructing bases, building airfields, conducting underwater construction and building roads, bridges and other support facilities while providing protection for themselves and those around them.

Back to The Beginning

Seabees carry section of pressed steel runway surfacing (Marston matting), while constructing the Torokina Airfield on Bougainville Island.

Who’s Your Daddy?

On Dec. 28, 1941, Rear Adm. Ben Moreell, commander of the Bureau of Yards and Docks (BuDocks) and the Navy’s Chief of Civil Engineers, requested authority to activate, organize, and train a new Naval Construction Regiment comprising three Naval Construction Battalions – men recruited from the construction trades and trained by the Marines in ground combat.

Dong Xoai!

The Seabees were among the first Americans to deploy to Vietnam, with their first mission happening as early as 1955. But some of their most heroic exploits wouldn’t come until they started building clandestine Special Forces camps deep in the jungles of Vietnam.

Their Contributions Are Immense!

Since World War II, Seabees have “built and fought” in all of America’s wars – in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq – and their contributions to each were great. For instance, in Korea in 1950, Seabees landed with the first wave of Marines invading Inchon. And in Vietnam in 1965, the combat actions of Seabee Marvin G. Shields were so heroic he received a posthumous award of the Medal of Honor.

Please remember that The Canteen is here to support
and entertain our troops and veterans and their families,
and is family friendly.

We have straightaways, but we also have idiots in huge SUVs and pickups that think that they can’t skid on ice if they have 4-wheel drive. Then they find out they can. I didn’t want on the same road with them! The worst was when I was at work when the sleet started and I’d have to drive that 20 miles sometimes in the dark. Talk about white-knuckles. LOL!

Darn! Sounds like you’re going to have a mess no matter what. Just hope it doesn’t turn out as bad as what VA got over the weekend!

I think I’ll take a pass on that. I came close to it though when I took a trip to VA during a blizzard to see my son at Langley AFB. The runways were a sheet of ice, but thankfully, the landing was smooth.
