~ FReeper Canteen Salutes The Seabees ~ Remembering Our Troops!! ~

Navy Construction Battalion

The Navy Construction Battalion – better known as the Seabees – is responsible for building much of the temporary and permanent infrastructure at U.S. military locations around the world. With roots dating back to World War II, the Seabees were formally established on March 5, 1942, to meet the Navy’s growing need to build bases, camps and other structures as part of the war effort. In the over seven decades since its founding, Seabees have gone on to serve in most major U.S. conflicts.

Canteen Mission Statement

Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies' military
and family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

True To Their Motto, Seabees Can Build Just About Anything, Anywhere!

The men and women of the Seabees have been deployed globally in every theater around the world constructing bases, building airfields, conducting underwater construction and building roads, bridges and other support facilities while providing protection for themselves and those around them.

Back to The Beginning

Seabees carry section of pressed steel runway surfacing (Marston matting), while constructing the Torokina Airfield on Bougainville Island.

Who’s Your Daddy?

On Dec. 28, 1941, Rear Adm. Ben Moreell, commander of the Bureau of Yards and Docks (BuDocks) and the Navy’s Chief of Civil Engineers, requested authority to activate, organize, and train a new Naval Construction Regiment comprising three Naval Construction Battalions – men recruited from the construction trades and trained by the Marines in ground combat.

Dong Xoai!

The Seabees were among the first Americans to deploy to Vietnam, with their first mission happening as early as 1955. But some of their most heroic exploits wouldn’t come until they started building clandestine Special Forces camps deep in the jungles of Vietnam.

Their Contributions Are Immense!

Since World War II, Seabees have “built and fought” in all of America’s wars – in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq – and their contributions to each were great. For instance, in Korea in 1950, Seabees landed with the first wave of Marines invading Inchon. And in Vietnam in 1965, the combat actions of Seabee Marvin G. Shields were so heroic he received a posthumous award of the Medal of Honor.

Please remember that The Canteen is here to support
and entertain our troops and veterans and their families,
and is family friendly.

Dealing with Disagreement
Read: Colossians 3:12–14

Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13

The social media powerhouse Twitter created a platform where people all over the world express opinions in short sound bites. In recent years, however, this formula has become more complex as individuals have begun to leverage Twitter as a tool to reprimand others for attitudes and lifestyles they disagree with. Log on to the platform on any given day, and you’ll find the name of at least one person “trending.” Click on that name, and you’ll find millions of people expressing opinions about whatever controversy has emerged.

We’ve learned to publicly criticize everything from the beliefs people hold to the clothes they wear. The reality, however, is that a critical and unloving attitude doesn’t align with who God has called us to be as believers in Jesus. While there will be times when we have to deal with disagreement, the Bible reminds us that as believers we’re to always conduct ourselves with “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12). Instead of being harshly critical, even of our enemies, God urges us to “bear with each other and forgive one another if [we have] a grievance” (v. 13).

This treatment isn’t limited to the people whose lifestyles and beliefs we agree with. Even when it’s difficult, may we extend grace and love to everyone we encounter as Christ guides us, recognizing that we’ve been redeemed by His love.Kimya Loder

Consider a time when you were quick to criticize a friend or a stranger. What was the result? What could you have done differently to honor God and the individual?

Heavenly Father, I know I fall short of Your glory every day. Thank You for Your unconditional love. Help me strive to be more like You by being patient and gentle with others.

Bible in a year: Genesis 16–17; Matthew 5:27–48

It was pretty nice today. Sunny with the high of 50.
Tomorrow will be a different story though. High around freezing and they predict ice for our area. NOT GOOD! We’d much rather have snow than ice.

It must be a lot colder in the city than at the airport. They got up to a whoppin’ 4 degrees.

Howdy, PRO.

Did your snow melt or are you still stuck with it?
Ours melted yesterday but we have more nasty on the way tomorrow.

I’m so ready for spring! LOL

Hi Kathy, snow will be around for awhile and more is expected; I had a few errands to run and been staying inside mostly.

Hi radu!

Our snow isn't going anywhere and more is expected tonight, but perhaps a slight warming soon.

Hey it's winter in snow country, that's why I drive an SUV.

Just be glad you have snow. We have the “pleasure” of snow sometimes, ice sometimes. We had snow the other day and now we get a turn with ice. I’m praying the cold front dives far enough overnight to give us snow instead.
