~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ New Year's Lucky Foods! Across the country and around the world, people celebrate the new year with a variety of foods, many of them thought to bring luck in the coming year.
From pork to peas to pastries, we can embrace different cultural culinary traditions in the hope of starting the new year off on the right foot. Here's a symbol of gold for your New Year's table: cornbread! Combine this Southern favorite with black-eyed peas and collard greens for triple the luck. Need some inspiration this year? Take a cue from pigs who are known to push forward as they eat. (And we want to move forward, not backward in the new year.) This is just one reason why pork is considered to be lucky on New Year's. Ensure good fortune this year by eating your greens—it's the color of money, after all! Collard greens are a Southern favorite, but you could also try kale, Swiss card, or any leafy green you could find. Black-eyed peas, which are actually a type of bean, are typically eaten on New Year's Day in the form of Hoppin' John (a simple stew), but they can also be made into a warm party dip, curry, or side dish for your New Year's meal. The shape of black-eyed peas is said to look like a coin which represents wealth—especially when combined with collard greens. What did you eat for New Years to bring good luck? FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT~Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Please remember: The Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops. The Canteen is family friendly. Let's have fun! We pray for your continued strength, to be strong in the face of adversity. We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon. We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way. God Bless You All ~ Today, Tomorrow and Always |

I didn’t see much of the evening news and what little I did hear about snow as where it hit along the coast - - VA on up. I didn’t check the radar as far south as FL last night so had no clue. They get snow once in a while along the panhandle and last night was one of those times.
So he wants to go back to Boston? That’s a surprise since he hates cold so much. If he’d get out and MEET PEOPLE instead of holing up in his apartment like a hermit, he might not be so lonely. What a concept, huh?

I know it would be better for him, but he’s not good at meeting new people. And the stupid virus had him scared for so long. Well, he never got it, so I guess his caution paid off. Or his immune system.
My hubby has GOT to water our poor lawn. If it dies, he dies. Just kidding...sort of. LOL! We got a sprinkle the other day but it didn’t measure, so it’s still been since mid-August since we had any rain. It’s like crispy critters around here. I’m just glad we didn’t have any wildfires when the wind was so bad.

He was holed up before WuFlu reared its head. He needs to step out into the world and be a part of society.
Wow, it’s been that long since you’ve had a decent rainfall? I knew it had been a while but didn’t think it was THAT long? Time slips away. Yup, he needs to get out there to water it. It’ll be warm enough this week to be comfortable doing it.

We had some really nice weather yesterday. The iPhone did much better and held at 100%.
Just as a reference iPhone batteries use liquid ion. The ion freezes when it get cold so the iPhone doesn't doesn't do well in cold weather. Very fortunate my niece Liz got me a power bank for it for Christmas.
But yes, a great visit to the lake yesterday and here are the pics:

I told him that I’d be nagging him if he didn’t start tomorrow. St. Augustine stays partially green all winter and I don’t want it to die. It’s very hard to get it to spread.

Howdy, EGC! ((hugs)) Glad y'all had fun and that it wasn't too cold to go to the lake. Also glad that the phone is holding a charge better than it was. Gizmo seems to be enjoying the sunshine.

That power bank you got for Christmas was the best gift yet, wasn’t it? You’ll get a lot of use out of it.
Gizmo made the best of the beautiful day. Happy pooch.

Find something heavy to hold in your hands while nagging him. A little “incentive”. No one likes the idea of getting clopped in the head. LOL
Hubby would be thrilled if our grass died off. Several times he’s said if he ever wins the lottery, he’s going to pour cement over all the grass, paint it green, and be done with it. LOL
Of course, he has to play the lottery to have a chance to win in the first place.

I think my threat to nag him will do the trick. He hates that. LOL!
Guess I’d better go. The show I was watching lasted longer than I anticipated. See ya tomorrow!

I don’t know about others but New Years celebrations in my town flatlined this year.
Never had it so quiet in the neighborhood....heard two go off and that was it. Even the towns normal fireworks didn’t happen.
However I’m up for a New Year even though it’s likely going to be worse than last year with this administration so off the rail. I can still plan my life and accomplishments and Lord willing I will.

Old Man Winter is giving us all a big slap to start the year. We got hit pretty good too. Many are still without power around the area. Thankfully we only lost internet service. Stay safe and warm.

I hope your new year is full of personal positive things. I try to NOT think of the stuff in DC. Living in Texas does make it easier. It’s good to be in a place that doesn’t “mandate” the heck out of ya!
In fact I heard a lot of fireworks in my neighborhood even though it’s illegal [sounds like a contradiction, huh. LOL] to set them off in the city limits, especially since we haven’t had any rain since August and everything is a fire hazard.

Anyhoooo...hope that whatever you ate
....will give you a GOOD New Year!
We could sure use one.
Have a Terrific Tuesday as a starter!
