Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday commuted the prison term of a truck driver who was sentenced to 110 years after a fatal accident in 2019, reducing the sentence to 10 years.
The man, Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, 26, killed four people on April 25, 2019, after, he said, his brakes failed on the downhill grade on Interstate 70 eastbound outside Denver. Prosecutors argued that Aguilera-Mederos acted recklessly and made a series of poor decisions before the wreck

Given this was an accident, that is still a bit harsh. But better than 110 years
Was NOT an accident.
It was a willful and intentional avoidance of proper driving, ignoring and intentionally bypass of runaway ramps, and failure to grind his truck against the rails to slow down.
No accident by the illegal murderer. But fine, let him rot for 100.
...or to drop into the lowest gear. Better to ruin a transmission than to crash.
Obviously a libtard governor going soft on foreigners killing Americans 🤪
110 is a bit much, but I agree with your thoughts.
This guy was violating too many safety precautions to get any
consideration.
This is exactly the type of thing many of us predicted when
we warned of Mexican truckers taking over long hauls in the
United States.
And we were laughed at and told that wasn’t in the cards
anyway.
Yeah, well it was wasn’t it.
This is definitely not enough time. From one extreme to the other.
If he’d been a WASP, the victims black I seriously doubt he’d be given a lighter sentence.
More ammo to fire Polis.
While the judge sentenced him...still probably makes the jury wonder “Why bother?”.
Hey, it was only an American family. No illegals died in this
incident. All is okay... /s
No mention of the victims families thoughts?
I work in logistics, and the trucking industry is at its breaking point. It'll be 15 years next May and I think I'm at a crossroads where I don't see myself continuing this. There are simply not enough drivers and the capacity is super-tight. At the very least, the industry should be allowed to let drivers with spotty traffic records sign on. That's another thing. Your driving record has to be pristine in order to be a truck driver.
The families of the victims need to find out who his cellmate is and keep his Commissary account full for “Services Rendered”.
10? So that means he’ll likely be out in 6.
MIT published a study within the last month or two that examined the long-haul trucking problem in detail. The crux of the problem is that drivers are losing so much of their on-duty time to delays at the loading dock and limited hours of operation at their customers. As a result, the average long-haul driver is only actually driving about 6.5 to 7 hours a day — in an industry where 11-hour driving days are permitted under Federal regulations. This has serious financial consequences for drivers who are paid by the mile, and earn nothing when the truck isn’t moving.
I was a trucker. This was gross negligence. It was NOT an accident. Brakes don’t “suddenly” go out on a semi. Ever.
That’s true, thanks.
