Republican gains among Hispanics in Reading mirror those in other parts of the country, but Democrats think they still have important advantages with this growing demographic!READING, Pa.—Joseph Nuñez at first didn’t like Donald Trump. “I couldn’t stand the guy. I didn’t like the way he spoke about Hispanics or people in general,” he said. But by 2020, Mr. Nuñez had become a fan of Mr. Trump’s style and priorities, and he voted in favor of giving the president a second term.
So did many other Latino voters in this working-class city who had once backed Democrats or, like Mr. Nuñez, had skipped elections altogether. Now, as political strategists continue to sift through the 2020 election results, the emergence of these newly Republican voters is setting off alarm bells within the Democratic Party.
Nationwide, Mr. Trump’s share of the Latino vote grew by 8 percentage points compared with 2016, an analysis by Catalist, a Democratic voter-data firm found earlier this year. New calculations by the firm find that while then-candidate Joe Biden won 61% of Latino voters, the shift toward the GOP meant that he carried the group by about 750,000 votes less than had Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee four years earlier.
That erosion is a danger sign for the party, given that President Biden’s winning margin in five states was less than 100,000 votes.
—strategists in both parties are trying to determine why a larger share of Latino voters backed Mr. Trump and whether the shift is durable.
One main conclusion: The social constraints that were once a barrier to voting Republican have eroded, in large part because the strong economy during much of Mr. Trump’s term caused many Latino voters to give the party a second look.

As a group Hispanics put family before everything. I guess such a simple concept is too much for the GOP.
Here’s a thought.
Ask a Hispanic voter in this uh Pennsylvania City?
My observation has been that Mexicans who came here legally are disgusted with the Democrats opening the flood gates to the illegals.
I guess such a simple concept is too much for the GOP.

The GOP is largely a one issue party: taxes.
I guess it’s because they aren’t dead yet, but I am confident the Dems can rectify that.
If you hit your pet dog that you raised from birth with a rolled up newspaper enough, it will bite you sooner of later. What is so mysterious about that?

Oh, they know why it is hispanics and other minorities are gravitating towards a Trump-led GOP.
It just doesn’t pay as well.
Latinos have lived under corrosive socialismo. They’ve seen this movie before and don’t want to live under it again.
If you think about it Latino culture has very little in common with white progressivism and wokeness.
If I was hispanic I’d be very afraid of what the Democrats are selling. It defeats the whole purpose of them coming to this country.
You got it right. The GOP is only interested in bigger personal payoffs rather than winning elections and advancing the conservative agenda.
In spite of the Dims dreams of how to use massive immigration from south of the border, legal and illegal, too many “Hispanics” are now 2nd, third, fourth, fifth plus generation Americans with the same basic concerns of most all Americans - well run cities, basic public services like good police protection and good schools, the ability to make progress not because of your “ethnic” background or “race, but regardless of those attributes - not a handout just an equal chance. They have seen the deterioration of family life, religious life and values generated by the identity politics and government plantation society promoted by the Dims, and just as so many people become more “Conservative” as they get older, many “immigrant” families become more American as the generations go by.
Why for either party.
If both parties decide the Hispanic shift to the GoP is real, then the southern border will get slammed shut so fast it will make your piñata spin. The evil party will insist on it.
Clueless group Republican politicians. Plain as the nose on their faces. Hispanics didn’t trudge 1,000 miles on foot to be lectured about transgender inequities, social justice, or carbon footprints.
All these former Democrats voted for Trump but he still lost. Yeah, I don’t buy it.
Exactly. If we get another GOPe President they will immediately propose a tax cut
Anything else that they do will be things they work out with a combination of Democrats and RINO Republicans.
I don’t really care much about someone’s race but “Hispanic” isn’t really a race at all is it?
The clueless GOP and the malignant Democrats. Great combination.
Imagine if President Trump spoke out against ghetto thugs and drug dealers. They would say that President Trump is anti-Negro.
They probably see news stories about another minority getting out on low bail after murdering someone.
Who wants to live in that world?
