Ted Cruz Says He Should Be Republican Nominee for President

Sen. Ted Cruz, in an interview, said he is particularly well-positioned to win the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, referencing his second-place finish behind Donald Trump in the party's 2016 primary.

Cruz, R-Texas, was talking to The Truth Gazette, a conservative news service operated by 15-year-old Brilyn Hollyhand. Asked by Hollyhand whether he would consider running again for the White House, Cruz responded, "Absolutely. In a heartbeat."

"You know, I ran in 2016. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life. We had a very crowded field. We had 17 candidates in the race — a very strong field. And I ended up placing second," Cruz said.

"There's a reason historically that the runner-up is almost always the next nominee. And that's been true going back to Nixon or Reagan or McCain or Romney that has played out repeatedly. You come in with just an enormous base of support."

Cruz obtained the second-most delegates at the Republican Party’s 2016 convention in Cleveland, where a contingent of his supporters attempted to derail Trump's nomination and disrupted the proceedings, Politico reported. Cruz failed to endorse Trump, but said Republicans should vote their conscience.

No.

The Preacher Teddy act in 2016 was enough to say no thanks.

I voted for Ted in the primary because he had a proven track record. I then voted for Trump and was upset Ted didn’t get on board to defeat Hillary sooner.

I just don’t know if Cruz can win a national election.

No, Ted.

But we’ll keep you as a Senator.

We need to get Cornyn out, however.

I like Cruz but he conducted himself like an ass during the 2016 primary.

He’s more effective in the Senate.

He let the ambition get to his head instead of thinking like a patriot and a servant of the people. Hopefully he does not make the same mistake again in 2024.

Never saw this coming...

LMAO

Ted is so transparent. Every comment he makes is calculated
and supportive of him running again.

What he’s basically saying is that he would be thrilled to
go after Trump again in the spring of 2024. Then he can get
his poor little feelings hurt and fail to seriously get on
board and support Trump right up until election day again.

How many rallies will he appear at this time, refusing to
mention Trump’s name while some Soros/Obama acolyte focuses
on destroying the nation further.

Maybe he can help the Republican swamp to rally around more
hatred for Trump, and give Trump another wasted four years
since his own party will refuse to work with him.

Golly gosh oh gee Ted, would you really to that for us
AGAIN! Please...

This swine can go...

If, only, Donald Trump was younger. This is my main, negative thing to say about Donald Trump. There are way too many D’s and R’s who are 80+ years old! Look at the U.S. Senate!

Cruz was my pick before Trump came along, but I never kidded myself about his chance to win

Number one, although it shouldn’t matter, was his look and demeanor that I thought would turn voters off

Number two, it may have worked in the past, but the days are gone when pounding the lecture with the Bible and yelling “Constitution Constitution Constitution “ just don’t play in this current climate

He declared this in an interview with a 15 year old child? Really. Now that’s credibility on the national stage for you.

JFK got murdered, and his dad fled the country for Canada. And he put up that sleaze ad about Melania. He could barely keep his seat in Texas. No thanks...

He’ll, NO!

Unless he actually does become the Republican nominee for president.

I will always vote and will not vote for a Democrat (or any 3rd party).
