Meteorologists are monitoring as a system with the potential for damaging winds and severe thunderstorms is moving into the region Wednesday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple advisories for the region, adding Wednesday's forecast hasn't been seen before in mid-December and is unprecedented.
A Tornado Watch was issued for part of the KSTP viewing area shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Storms and high winds are expected to move in around 5 p.m.
Tornado Watch now through 8 PM across southern/south-central MN & Iowa. A few tornadoes are still possible across SE MN and the metro as well as west-central WI this eve., mainly past 6 PM & before 9 PM. Have a severe weather plan ready. Storms will develop & track rapidly.

Thanks for that info…so giving more money to DC to “combat” climate change is a scam I guess.
Not likely.
The two drivers for severe weather are temperature and moisture in the air and there’s not much ability to control that.

We had bad predictions in western Colorado. It was a flop here.
“Extremely Rare”= Has Happened Before.
It’s an excellent scam by the elite that’s been running since 1979 or 1980 that began with UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Then you have the elite’s scam of windmills, solar PV, and electric cars that followed on its heels.
President Walter says its man-made Global Warming (TM) and we all need plug-ins to stop it, so it’s all good. /sarc
re: “When’s the last time you remember parts of Minnesota and Iowa under a tornado watch IN DECEMBER? “
Well, this is what happens when the atmospheric ‘flow’ changes from generally zonal to meridional ...
Zonal and meridional flow are directions and regions of fluid flow on a globe.
Meridional flow follows a pattern from north to south, or from south to north, along the Earth’s longitude lines, longitudinal circles (meridian) or in the north–south direction.
Zonal is east-west ...

The key phrase.....before recorded history.
And for tornadoes those records are only reliable after 1988 when Doppler radar was started. It finished installation around 1997. Some say 1970 is ok to use for a start point.
Anything prior to that is sketchy.
We have no idea what happened in 1929 or 1859 there. Might have been an EF 5.
Too bad the Indians didn't keep written records.
You are saying that historical records of hurricanes and tornadoes were not reliably before 1988?
The National Weather Service did not exist until 1988?
There were no newspapers that recorded the death and destruction of tornadoes and hurricanes before 1988?
I guess it was the stone age back then. Heck, TV and satellites didn’t even exist until 1988!
That five feet of snow in Seattle back on 9JAN1880, must be fake news!!!
I'm saying reliable records don't exist....and I addressed only tornadoes.
There's a reason I know and posted this.

Yeah, you’re forgetting about the WSR-57 and WSR-74 RADARs fielded by the NWS. And, back in the 70’s many TV stations had their own RADAR systems too.
And before that, just after WW2, a number of RADAR stations were in operation by the military, and a few by the weather bureau too, but nothing like the first network of WSR-57 RADARs.
I am well aware of the history of tornado and hurricane monitoring for that reason.
And the peer reviewed papers I read have reported what I've written. All you have to do is download the data and begin plotting the increase in storms and the advancement in technology.
Sorry, you did forget the WSR-57 series of RADARs ... you are also probably unaware of early experimental systems that plotted lightning as a proxy for thunderstorms. One has to ‘dig deep’ in the literature to find that research ...
nope....forgot nothing. I’ve done the digging. now sit down, junior.
re: “And for tornadoes those records are only reliable after 1988 when Doppler radar was started. “
For instance, this is horse hockey. The WSR-57 RADAR display consoles were equipped with film cameras to record important details noticed by RADAR operators, such that further study by researchers could be performed. You’ll see noted in pubs/white papers in the day the photographs of WSR-57 RADAR imagery of squall lines and tornadic thunderstorms. From those days the term “right mover” evolved in identifying tornadic thunderstorms AS Doppler RADAR had not yet been fielded for weather observation in those early days.
I’ve researched this field too, buddy.
