Eric Adams will delay his public inauguration ceremony by several hours on Saturday, Jan.1, to accommodate his Jewish supporters, the Forward reported Tuesday.
Traditionally, the inauguration of New York City’s elected officials takes place on Jan. 1 at noon. This year, Jan. 1 is a Saturday, meaning the midday ceremony would be happening on Shabbat, when observant Jews typically do not travel.
Adams decided to shift the ceremony until later in the evening after Shabbat ends so his observant Jewish supporters could attend.

“And man goes forth to his work. And to his labor until the evening..”
Then the new day begins after sunset according to the Torah. Sunday, the first day of the week and the first day to labor, starts on Saturday evening.
That’s a class move. It’s respect.
Whoops!
At first glance at the title, thought that this article was about a shotgun slug...
After Dinkins a while ago, and deBlasio now, I’d say the Jewish portion of the electorate could use,a little acknowledgement, or preemptive pandering.
Adams sounds like he MIGHT be the first decent RAT mayor of NYC since Ed Koch in the 80s, but meh, I don't trust ANY NYC RAT. I wish Curtis Sliwa had won, but admittedly that was a extreme long shot.
I will be THRILLED to see de Blasio GONE though! Never understood why he and Bloomberg disliked each other so much when they were both limousine liberal fascists who agreed on 95% of the issues.
When the sun goes down, on my side of town....
Good for him.
No policy will be enacted until tomorrow, anyway, and with the announcement of a new police commissioner, he’s already off to a running start. A few hours’ delay in respect for his Jewish consituents is cool in my book. I hope it gives the Squad heartburn.
Yeah, but it’s a lunar calendar, so it’s at different times in different years, starting and ending at new moon, not the solar month of the Roman calendar. And I’m pretty sure it’s not this month.
He has less inhibiting him than Giuliani or Bloomberg did. They can’t call him racist, and unlike the last black mayor David Dinkins, he’s no wuss. He’s a veteran cop who won’t put up with crap from the likes of Sharpton and his fellow travelers. He’s a Dem, so moderate Dems who are sick of living in fear will back him.
So it’s likely he’ll do what he said he’d do.
You’re only thinking of Manhattan. In Brooklyn and Queens there are entire neighborhoods that observe the Sabbath, where the streets are closed for children to play while their fathers attend synagogue and their mothers rest on the day of rest. Bronx on Pelham Parkway, too, and I think Riverdale (no relation to Archie), and some parts of Staten Island.
I’m taking a wait and see attitude.
They had different initials in front of their names. Sort of like gang colors. Bloods and Crips hate each other. Same thing.
Well you should. My heart is still deeply attached to NYC. Grew up in Chicago and Buffalo, but that was where I called home as an adult for about 18 years or so. Loved the life there. And I loved Giuliani. The gun laws, taxes, pooper scooper fanatics who wouldn’t let me walk my pit bull by Jamaica Bay in peace, crazy people on subway trains, and racist slime activists who are now BLM clones, you could keep.
Hitting that lotto is an extreme long shot, Silwa winning would have been how Scotty described that BS transwarp beaming in “Faux Trek”. Never Trump has been, and apparently a weirdo who tried to bring his cat to vote. Terrible choice, should have went with the other candidate, Fernando Mateo.
As for Adams, cop, former Republican. If I was voting in the rat primary it’d have been either him or Yang.
Ramadan in 2022 is basically the entire month of April - I looked it up. Every year it starts 11 days earlier by the Gregorian Calendar. So, since it starts on the 92nd day of the Gregorian year, 92 / 11 = 8.27 years to reach January 1st. So that would be 2030 or 2031. No need to worry about the two events colliding until 2034.
The problem this coming year is that Ramadan includes the dates of Easter, by both the Roman and Eastern formulae.
IMHO opinion, he’s a gentleman and a scholar. And an astute politician. A few hours won’t matter all that much and will mean a lot to many citizens.
An astute politician is good. Gentlemen and scholars get eaten alive in politics. Better to offend all the right people and send them packing.
Okay, but remember that when he disappoints you ...
Still a small overall share of the population. Think of the voting patterns as a proxy.
The bible says He calls the Light Day
And the darkness Night.
It appears in the bible that there was Light, then less light (Evening), then morning (Dawn- New Light)
The New Light would have to be called Day because He calls the Light,Day.
There is one Sabbath that was supposed to start when His Light faded to Night.
9th at even to 10th at even.
The reason why is found in the New Testament.
And it happens to be the 40th day the Messiah of Israel fasted.
And Israel was called to fast from evening to evening. Because it’s tradition that people, after working during the Light, that they would retire in the evening and eat.
And Israel was restricted of having that evening meal.
Full 24 hours. 3 or 4 Night watches and the next 12hour day.
To commemorate what the Messiah of Israel did for 40 days.
Day- Light
Evening- Fading of Day
Morning- Dawn, new Light.
Evening and morning in the bible seems to describe the
Period between the Light.
Called Night
Not Day.
That seems to be reserved for the Light, according to scripture.
I hope so, too. I guess we’ll see.
