'The situation is dire'; Salvation Army facing toy, donation shortage ahead of holidays

SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help.

The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle.

"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."

Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.

"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can," said Foley.

"We have obliged them."

Ditto. I did stop and tell them why though.

Good! Apparently enough Caucasians have seen the light and are not triggered into self defacement to appease this monster! I noticed that all of a sudden the bell-ringers are all whites! Is this supposed to indicate some form of repentance? I’m not fooled! Besides there are LOTS of better agencies to pour your money into that actually help the intended!

" Top management at the Salvation Army is repeating the same lame excuses Gillette management used a few years ago in blaming every cause except alienating their customer base by advocating leftist causes: toxic masculinity in the case of Gillette, critical race theory in the case of the Salvation Army. My grandfather was a 17yo Iowa farm boy who joined the Army and promptly found himself in France 1917-18. There were several organizations (40&8, VFW, Oddfellows, Salvation Army) that were very important to him. He was in his 80s (I was a teenager) when he started talking. He told me that I was never to walk past a kettle. He said the SA was the “good” outfit and was so important and the only semblance of normalcy or home that he had experienced during the war. According to him, they would set up close to the front and their coffee and doughnuts were free. They tried to discourage gambling and would coordinate sending money home to make it more difficult. He said they were courageous angels and would share the gospel or conversation or quiet company in an insane situation. He died in 1991 and remembered them in his estate.

I have followed his directive ever since. I only ever really carry cash in November and December— and it is for the kettles. This year has been a battle for me. I just finally walked past one at the grocery store and feel horrible. I feel like I’m disgracing my grandfather but feel the SA now have no use for him.

Salvation Army kettles and bell ringers disappeared from front of my Safeway store soon after announcement of their CRT stand.

All my donations go to Union Gospel Mission, a national organization, but I give locally. They do great work getting drunks off the street, into housing, and off the booze. I gave them my old car, walked into their showroom the next day with the title and was greeted with “Hi, I’m Jack, an alcoholic and the sales manager.” Wonderful-looking, personable young man born to be the sales manager.

UGM has thrift stores too, very nice merchandise. Might be a good place to drop off toys if you’re inclined to.

My wife and I seldom passed a SA kettle without contributing something. This year, nada. Maybe the Wokesters can fill in the gaps?

It's going to be a long, uphill struggle for the Salvation Army to regain it's reputation and many contributors if they ever can. The giving slump this year has little to do with "...pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future". It has everything to do with them leaving their first love, Jesus, taking on an ideology of the Devil, and losing the good will of their supporters.

They really scr+wed the pooch on this one.

I just have antidotal but where I live other than some bell ringers, I see no activity from the salvation army....usually I see smaller stores with a gift tree or other activities. I am not seeing the level of persons volunteering to be out there raising the money.

A few days ago in suburban Las Vegas, I saw my first bell ringer at the biggest grocery in the area. It looked like a couple of employees were out with him trying to round up donations. No one donated while I was looking on my long walk in or on my way out. I went again the next day (a weekend day)…no bell ringer was there, and hasn’t been there in the two or three trips I made since.

I think they were not doing very well.

From the article =>

“There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future,..”

Me => So why were donations up during the pandemic year 2020? =>

“The Alexandria, Va.-headquartered charity announced Friday that it had raised $557.3 million during the 2020 holiday season, an increase of 27% over the 2019 campaign’s total $437.7 million.”

They know. They know perfectly well and all they want to do is minimize the damage, not address the problem. The problem is the International Committee for Social Justice that they've brought into their management chain and who published the infamous "apologize for being white and give us money" manual that is now no more than withdrawn temporarily for review, not disowned. It, and the racist committee behind it, aren't going anywhere, they're just laying low for now.

I know I quit giving anything to United Way when I found out about one generation of managers there were milking it for bennies and perks

How old am I? I quit giving to United Way in 1993 when it was revealed its president was receiving lavish pay, benefits, and travel.

Apparently the “woke crowd” isn’t filling in the gap left by the traditional supporters who felt unappreciated by the Salvation Army’s anti-white training.

The same ones who rarely leave a tip in restaurants.

Added, and it’s extremely bothersome to me is there seems to be no means test determining genuine need. I see so many taking the public support and causal observation it appears most are unworthy or truly deserving is wholly immoral and it causes the truly needy suffrage.
