SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help.
The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle.
"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."
Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.
"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can," said Foley.
Finding out people of color aren’t big into donations?
I dunno...some people have long memories. I know I quit giving anything to United Way when I found out about one generation of managers there were milking it for bennies and perks AND their funding of abortion providers/advocators/assisters, LGBTQ stuff and a host of other smaller triggered groups.
Yep! I wouldn’t want to stain their souls with my filthy, white-privilege-earned money. Pity. Another great organization bites the dust.
When the wound is self inflicted, the sympathy meter registers much lower.
Reapin’ what they sowed...
If/when they apologize the money won’t come back.
Now they know, don’t p*** off your biggest supporters.
Sux to be them and the people who depended on them.
Instead of giving to Salvation Army, I’m helping a local family help pay the vet bills for the unexpected surgery of their beloved pet.
Even if Salvation Army “changes their tune” it’s too late for me. They showed their true colors. Any recanting is just damage control. I now know how they really feel.
As far as I can tell.... Christian Appalachian Project has avoided the woke disease. Research and consider them for a donation.
Go woke, go broke.
Salvation Army — White donors need to offer ‘Sincere Apology’ for their collective Racism…
Normally, the Left should be laughed at. But in this instance (not to mention countless others), their actions are harming people (those who have been actually helped in the past by the Salvation Army).
Sinistra delenda.
Where I’ve seen SA bell ringers this year, I have not seen one person putting any money in the kettles. Usually, folks exiting stores will drop in their change or a dollar after shopping .... I have been looking especially to see if donations are happening & haven’t seen one. None from me, either.
They can put it off to ‘pandemic fatigue’, employment, worries about the future, but they know the truth of the matter: by jumping on the woke bandwagon, their “troubles” are self-inflicted.
I used to feel guilty when walking by a red kettle and not putting something in it. Now, I happily stroll by.
I live west of Seattle out on the coast. Last night the wife and I discussed the Salvation Army and their embrace of Critical Racist Theory. For decades we took all the kids with us when we volunteered to be holiday bell ringers.
Not anymore. It’s going to be an interesting conversation around the Christmas dinner table this year because none of us are participating in a 3 generation family tradition.
And didn't we hafta' 'pologize fer' being white too????
I have no hard data to base my opinion on but I doubt that anyone was dropping any $1000-$2000 (or larger) donations in their kettles. What that tells me is that the folks giving from a handful of change to $100-$200 has profoundly diminished as a result of their offensive statements.
They shot themselves in the foot - with a bazooka!
I guess the “woke” can help out, then.
Funny how that works, huh?
I am too white to care about the communist SA.
Samaritan’s purse is better though not as convenient.
You all have pretty much said what should be said.
