Noncitizens in New York City would gain the right to vote in municipal elections under a measure approved Thursday by the City Council that would give access to the ballot box to 800,000 green card holders and so-called Dreamers.
More than a dozen communities across the United States already allow noncitizens to cast ballots in local elections, including 11 towns in Maryland and two in Vermont. But New York City is the largest place by far to give voting rights to noncitizens.
Noncitizens still wouldn’t be able to vote for president or members of Congress in federal races, or in the state elections that pick the governor, judges and legislators.
The measure would allow noncitizens who have been lawful permanent residents of the city for at least 30 days, as well as those authorized to work in the U.S., including so-called “Dreamers,” to help select the city’s mayor, city council members, borough presidents, comptroller and public advocate.
City Councilman Joseph Borelli, the Republican leader, said a legal challenge is likely. Opponents say the council lacks the authority on its own to grant voting rights to noncitizens and should have first sought action by state lawmakers.

Can they get into the polls without proof of vaccination?
Shouldn’t they get their own councilperson-at-large to represent them?
Doesn’t sound legal...a city council doing this???

(local elections where it all begins to GTH!)
NYS has a constitution. I can’t imagine this fits.
I’m not a citizen of NYC, so I guess that makes me a non-citizen.
Maybe I should temporarily “live” in a friend’s NYC apartment for exactly 30 days before each election, so I too can have a say in their local matters.
Clearly unconstitutional.
Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
Notice how many cities and states pass insane laws yet never put these to a popular vote because they know damn well these insane laws won’t pass that way.
No big deal.
Illegal aliens already vote in big numbers after being registered by democrats.
Illegal alien and green card immigrant votes are what turned Virginia solid blue.
(This last election was an anomaly unless Youngkin can restore vote integrity)
And the exodus increases.
I once thought I’d like to visit NYC, though I’d never want to live there.
Now I don’t even want to visit.

Protect against invasion with what? many cities they don’t even allow guns except severely restricted cases- This article should be the number one reason for actually owning effective weapo0nry to repel invasion and protect oneself- but the left have so bastardized the intent that now it is though the article doesn’t even exist
I lived there up until 1980 and haven't visited in at least 20 years. They couldn't pay me enough to go back there for even a day trip.
Yes it is a big deal. It is rewarding illegal behavior. A few city councilmen are illegally now making laws for the city.
Same here. Something goes wrong in the mind when one stays there too long.
So basically they just seceded from the US.
When does the Federal invasion begin?
Then move back to Montana, but continue to vote in NYC elections for the next fifty years - by absentee ballot!
Regards,
Give it time!

Many states are infected with disease
