BEDFORD, Ind. (AP) — General Motors is planning a $51 million upgrade at its aluminum die casting foundry in southern Indiana to support manufacturing of the upcoming electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
GM said it will install state-of-the-art equipment at its sprawling Bedford plant, which this year began producing electric drive unit castings for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup and 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV, The Herald-Times reported.
Production of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup will begin this month at GM’s Factory ZERO assembly plant, located in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan.
“This investment is another example of the company bringing along our workforce in our journey to an all-electric future while we strengthen our current products,” said Phil Kienle, GM vice president of North America Manufacturing and Labor Relations.

The newest way they will go is opposed piston engines.

That F-150 450 mile range or the 400 mile of the GM EV goes to 200 miles when towing. Then you stop.

If your daily run is less than battery range (load impact included), you get substantially more torque and far lower “fuel” cost (low enough to easily beat break-even on TCO). Most/all electric pickups are including 4WD 4WS (four wheel steering) to boot.
EVs don’t meet everyone’s needs. Those they do meet, which is a large if not majority fraction, they meet very well.
Great idea, alas it’s probably illegal.
By roundabout way, that is arguably why EVs do so well: using next-gen tech to come back around to the basics of motor and not much else, inherently bypassing the costly requirements of MPG, emissions control, etc.

No more oil changes, checking air cleaner etc.
Wait until the 150,000 mile airless tire comes out which I believe some companies are looking at putting on their cars in a year or so. No more tire inflation or nail/screw issues.
That’s a good range...however someone here pointed out that EV’s would not be good for use as emergency vehicles due to the charging times. And some of these vehicles are based on pickup trucks.
If a city purchased a fleet of electric police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, etc. they would have to purchase additional vehicles.
When there is an emergency you cannot wait for the vehicle to charge, so some would have to be busy charging while others would be prepared for use.
Charge times would have to get below 10 minutes from fully discharged to fully charged to be practical as emergency vehicles.

Outside company tested a new F-150 467 miles not towing but I bet they hadd the AC on. Also from what I have read the AC/Heat only uses about 5% of the power per hour. They predicted 300 miles with a 1000 lb load.

These EV’s are getting better each month. A Tesla production sedan right off the showroom floor, bone stock just ran the quickest production car 1/4 mile ever ran 8.94 seconds.
I have a gas, 4WD, 4WS pickup now. I thought about the GM EV 4WD, 4WS pickup and put a portable diesel generator in the back and operate it as a hybrid. And then I said, why?
The automakers probably anticipate that at some point, it’ll be illegal to buy cars that use internal combustion engines. First step would BS by 2030, you can buy only new EVs. In the year 2040, gas will become illegal (except for military).
Facts be facts. Neighbors son traveled from LA to here and it took him 6 and 1/2 hours for a 5 hour trip.
Had to recharge the piece of sh@t car and once they got here, they had to keep the stupid piece of sh@t plugged in for the entire stay to get enough charge to get back where they could fast charge it.
