From the nearby Detroit news station website:
"As detectives search for clues about what led up to the shooting, the Oakland County Sheriff confirms what the 7 Investigators have been learning from several sources: that Oxford High School officials met with the teen and his parents about concerning behavior just hours before the shooting.
"“We had no information from the schools. But we have since learned that the schools did have contact with the student the day before and the day of the shooting for behavior in the classroom that they felt was concerning. In fact, the parents were brought in the morning of the shooting and had a face-to-face with the school,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
"Bouchard would not reveal the topics discussed during that meeting, only that his liaison officer in the school was not told about it. Bouchard also confirmed the school allowed Crumbley to stay in the building after that 10:00 a.m. meeting Tuesday, and around 12:50 p.m. the shooting started.
"Bouchard said the “content of that meeting obviously is part of the investigation.”"

Do you happen to know if that school is a “Gun-Free Zone”? Are they generally so there?
Doesn’t seem to be enough information to know much right now. But I will toss out the possibility that this kid was being bullied (that seems widely acknowledged) and the meeting focused on HIM being the problem, and HIM being in trouble and how HE needed to make some changes, or else.
In my experience, schools come down hard on victims, and mostly let bullies skate.
But who knows what happened in this instance?
I saw a comment that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer barely took a brief pause after her public condolences before she threw in that somebody has to stop the gun violence caused by too much freedom to own guns.
That dusty old US Constitution getting in her way again.
Following your reasoning, could be a case of zero-tolerance severe consequences persuading "if that's the punishment of lesser, may as well go all-in". Bullying wasn't gonna stop, system was enabling it, and even a single punch back would ruin his academic year, if not remaining life.
"What's the penalty for being late?"
"Death."
"What's the penalty for rebellion?"
"Death."
"Well -- we're late."
And that's the story of the Dazexiang Uprising.
My wife who is a school librarian agrees with your assessment.
Along with having a No Bully Policy, schools need to explore the other side of the coin; kids need to learn how to become more resilient. This HAS to happen before any sense of normalcy is reached. Otherwise the Victimhood identity remains too valuable a comodity for those who would abuse it.
One example: Trans and their school bathrooms or Trans-”Girls” on Bio Girls sport teams.
Is it just me, or does this story seem to be getting more press than the Waukesha driver killings? White perp here, vs. black in Wisconsin. Car vs. gun.
Strange that he says he was bullied but two of his victims were girls.
I don’t think it was bullied, although it is possible. More likely he is a special ed student with an emotional disability. Schools are scared to death to get rid of kids with emotional disabilities who are violent or misbehaving at school at school. Our principal told me 3 weeks ago that if a kid gets in trouble and needs to be expelled but has an emotional disability they cannot expel them.
It’s stupid. When I was student teaching I had a kid that was on probation because he threatened to kill a police officer and received a felony for it. Never mind that I was scared to death of him, but he had a right to go to school apparently.
“...he had a right to go to school apparently.”
Huh. Kids have SUCH a “right to go to school” there’s ZERO right NOT to go to school.
Education devolved when it became “public,” then began slowly dying the day it was made compulsory.
Have you met teenage girls? They can be the worst bullies. Bullies don’t equate to the old fashioned physical kind these days.
What more do you need to hear about Waukesha?
I’m trying my best to try and keep accurate information coming on this since I’m local to it. My kids graduated from the school (one just last year), so it’s challenging to stay focused & “professional” for reporting on it.
Not sure on the bullying, but I can ask around. I do know that there was something about a deer head that was brought to the school in early November that *may* be connected to the shooter. I’ll try and get more information & verify this.
Additionally I do need to point out a couple of items. Even though the press may have withheld names of the shooter & victims, I have to give the local kids credit. They have a very good network going that quickly identified who all of the victims were to their group, but for the most part kept it low key where needed in respect for grieving families (re: Next Gen Freepers).

I believe all schools in Michigan are “gun free” zones (generally speaking - outside of police academies or college courses regulated for firearms). The only possible exception outside law enforcement might be someone with a concealed pistol license may be able to leave the firearm in their vehicle on school grounds (technically would have to unload & lock in case). But trying to take a firearm into the school otherwise would probably not end well for you short of stopping an active shooter situation and hoping you didn’t get shot by the shooter or the police piling into the school.

This wasn’t the ole days and I’m a kid of the 90’s. Today’s parents are “oh you got beat up? Maybe it’s your fault sweetie..”I was bullied too..until my dad told me to go back there and beat the sh*t of the kid who took THEIR money they gave to me to use. With additional “no dinner until I get MY money” from the dad.
ALL US school are “gun free zones”-—”thanks” to the “Safe Schools Act” championed by then Senator Joe Biden.
This blood is on his hands!

I’ve got heavy local bias, but you’re probably right. Watching old Lester Holt on NBC breakdown Waukesha without any mention of race or motive and transition right into the Aubry case down in Georgia playing all 52 of his available race cards on that one pretty much explains why the country is in the current situation of division it’s in.
And the pot of gold at the end of the lawsuits just grew exponentially...
5-to-10 years in jail for both the parents and the school officials would be the only sane outcome of this disaster...
First, the kid needs to become acquainted with old sparky...
