I have a Ministry to the homeless in my city, and boy this article really Nails the insanity. A couple days ago one guy asked me to charge his tablet because he broke his charger. An hour and a half later he had called the police claiming I stole his tablet. The police officers told him he's no longer wanted downtown for lying about this to them.
Now I understand a little more. The newer versions of meth are causing people to be bipolar and paranoid all at the same time along with their inability to communicate. This guy has been showing extreme symptoms that I've seen and I just thought it was long term homelessness and alcoholism.
I do believe I saw signs of him using meth but his personal behavior is Way Beyond the normal meth symptoms of several years ago.

That’s not necessarily a sign of drug use. Plenty of sober people these days that would do that.
Mr. Quinones would do well to carry and use a body camera or voice recorder.
Haha, Mr Quinones should get a load of the drug-fueled “conservatives” partying every night (that’s EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for YEARS) in my neighborhood. You can always tell when somebody brings the crack pipe out because the hysterical giggling and insane screeching are loud enough to be picked up on my security monitor. Threats. Chanting. Stuff that sounds like people being attacked. This is in the middle of the night, btw. Even though it would likely set the forest on fire, I often find myself praying that their lab, or their bank of “bitcoin” machines, or SOMETHING will explode or catch on fire because it seems like that’s the only way it will stop.
I agree with the other poster that said you should get a gun, Mr Quinones.
There is an old video clip of Frank Zappa, maybe close to 50 years ago, in which he says society really only has one problem, and that is Mental Illness. If we can find out how to really get a handle on Mental Illness, everything else would get better. I think that’s true. And, for a wide variety of reasons, the Mental Illness problem has gotten drastically worse in recent decades. Seems like everyone is crazy now.
And, additionally, as I have commented on other threads — I have known quite a few people who were somewhat concerned about COVID. No one wants to get sick, right? So, they figured, they’d get vaccinated, because you might as well, right? And after getting vaccinated they become anxious wrecks, terrified of COVID, always wearing masks, always mindful of social distancing, and mostly hiding in their homes, refusing to socialize with anyone. I think the vaccine makes people crazy.
Believing the insane Covid propaganda makes those who believe it act insanely.

...but drugs should be legalized, and the functioning part of society who didn’t abuse their bodies and minds should pay for endless rounds of rehab.

I didnt have the body cam or MP3 recorder with me that day, forgot it.
according to him:
he is going through a divorce
he is a pipe fitter
his lawyer told him to prevent the wife from getting any money, he had to be homeless
so, that way, they can’t award something from someone who has no income
hence, no alimony, NOR CHILD SUPPORT!
and he is voluntarily homeless.
I have seen him and his friends hitting the pipe
he denies any drug use
the very morning he accused me, about an hour before I got there, officer friendly let him slide on an open container.
The cops here are trying to be friendly, generous with help to treatment centers, to not be seen as bad guys.
I am grateful I have a testimony down here, it was my word against his, but the cops believed me right away, and when he tried to turn open the tablet, which I did have for promising to charge it for him, it was dead.
Sometimes you say “no”. Guy could have just sat there staring at his tablet until it’s charged. Doesn’t sound like there was a job anywhere.
How does a crack whore, of any gender, afford a tablet?
Zappa was right. And our group response has been to excuse and enable the crazy.
Innocent by reason of insanity, at any level. Evil wins because “it’s not their fault”.
The article’s conclusion misses the larger point. There is a spiritual war going on within each of us and society. We’ve driven God and Jesus from the public sphere, while evil temptations are more readily available than ever before.

I dont give a penny, but I will buy shoes, socks, skivvies, jackets, gloves, ski caps, backpacks, sleeping bags...
If they were Marine or Army and pass the secret handshake test, I set them up with full deuce gear if they dont want treatment and have a section of woods to crash in.
I did just now get a new treatment house who have a separate place for detox, then they can take guys in.
And this year, Salvation Army must have broke the piggy bank because almost all the regulars were clothed beautiful, only one new woman needed things, the rest gave me of the leftovers for gloves and ski caps.
Breaking a FR rule, i read the entire, well written, article. Makes me thankful for being sane.
Perhaps the answer lies with a real viral epidemic. Callously, there are so many addicted people that have ceased to be human. In the non-human animal world, we remove them from the herd. FYI, in nature, only humans choose to self destruct.
