EXCLUSIVE: After stepping up as a producer on his next film Killers of the Flower Moon, Apple has found its next Martin Scorsese project, and its subject is a band the Oscar winner knows well. Sources tell Deadline that Scorsese is on board to direct and produce a new untitled biopic on the Grateful Dead with Jonah Hill on board to play the group’s frontman, Jerry Garcia.
Hill will also produce the pic through his Strong Baby banner along with his producing partner Matt Dines.
Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who received rave reviews for penning American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, are writing the script with Rick Yorn of LBI Entertainment joining Hill and Scorsese as producers. The Dead’s Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann will executive produce along with their late bandmate’s daughter Trixie Garcia, Eric Eisner and Bernie Cahill.

How about finding some actual musicians for the movie?
No idea who Jonah Hill is, so had to Google....they could have made a better choice. I don’t see Jerry in Jonah.
I have no problem with a pic about the Dead as long as they don’t ruin it by including the fans.
Will they be handing out LSD at the Theater’s?
I wonder if they’ll do a scene where the Grateful Dead are playing on a stage and Bob Weir standing on an American flag while singing his singy songs.
How pathetic
What’s the theme? We haven’t had that feeling here since 1969?
Scorsese is a dweeb
I was never a deadhead. I liked some of the Grateful Dead’s work, most not. American Beauty was pretty good. But then I watched part of a documentary on the GD on Netflix. There I saw that for a “joke” the GD members would dose random people with LSD without the victim’s knowledge and permission. Then these sick criminals would have a big laugh at the victims’ antics. Ha ha ha. I wonder how many of the victims of these “jokes” never fully recovered.
The GD should all have been locked in prison.
I lost respect for Scoresese after suffering through 'The Irishman"
I’m with you on that one. Attended many Dead shows beginning in the early 80s right up to Jerry’s passing. Deadheads were increasingly insufferable through those years. Narcissistic mob of disgusting pigs.
Take a look at post 7. Grey up the beard and hair, add 30 pounds, don’t wash his hair for a month ..... Presto Change-o!
That good describe Democrat rally as well, except a lot fewer people.
Why not just forego bathing and play one of their songs over and over for an hour while staring into a kaleidoscope?
Yea thats sick, never liked them, more into king Crimson, tes, elp
Actually it wasn’t bad until the frat boy “touch heads” showed up in the late 80s. Once I saw mosh pits, I hopped off the train.
‘I don’t see Jerry in Jonah.’
Hill’s not scrungy enough; needs to be more hirsute, and he’d be perfectly adequate...
now let’s see him play lead guitar on the first five minutes of ‘Dark Star’...
The Grateful Dead were trash. Jonah Hill is a trash actor. It should work out well.
Jonah's sister is having her moment now.
She might make a better Jerry.
About as bad as casting his sister as Monica Lewinsky.
