You may be young, and you may be gifted, but if you are not young, gifted, and black, you need not apply for a new on-air position at the NBA on TNT.
On Wednesday, NBA on TNT Social Strategist Victoria McBryde posted a tweet seeking a “young, gifted, and Black” college student for an on-air position connected to the Oscar Pope Lift Every Voice Fellowship.
Lift Every Voice describes itself as “a grassroots initiative centered on empowering the imaginations of Black student journalists.” However, as Outkicks Bobby Burack points out, there’s no shortage of black sports journalists working on TNT’s NBA coverage or in NBA coverage throughout sports journalism.
As Burack writes:
TNT’s top NBA journalist Chris Haynes is black. Three of the four members of TNT’s Inside the NBA pregame show are black. In addition, Turner Sports’ Bleacher Report has made Taylor Rook, a black woman, the face of its brand.
Meanwhile at ESPN, the NBA’s other major partner, seven of the eight members of its pregame program, NBA Countdown, are black. In fact, the Worldwide Leader of Sports has just two former journalists working in opinion roles on ESPN’s NBA bumper programming: Stephen A. Smith and Michael Wilbon, both of whom are black. And Malika Andrews, a black female journalist in her 20s, replaced Rachel Nichols, a white woman, to be the host of ESPN’s signature daily NBA show in the fall.

Yup,I’ve noticed that...particularly the mixed couples.
I saw an ad the other day in which a black man, white man and white woman were seated on a couch. A voice then said something about “One of you knows nothing about football...” Then the camera zoomed to the white male (of course) who admitted his lack of knowledge. I am sure the woman and minority on the couch was coincident only. Because imagine of one of them was chosen....
‘Americans’ obsession with fake sports must end sometime.’
or else what...?
I would rather watch Lubiskie Centrum Cystosci YouTube videos than the NBA. Much more interesting and relaxing.
‘They’ll have to bring back advertising for menthols.’
and Ripple wine...
Must have Felony in the last 5 years.
It’s just official now.
Part of the reason I mostly watch Youtube videos. Even there I hate the commercials, they're not selling to me based on the casting.
I just don't understand why they made the State Farm guy black.
Racial equity means bow down to your new massa.
We only care about what kind of wrapping paper you come in.
Its offensive to everyone, Its just an extremely offensive and stupid criteria for determining employment. Its as bad and offensive as female quotas.
I just don’t understand why they made the State Farm guy black.

How about a theory that WHITE people aren’t racist, so they won’t object to a person of color pitching the product?
The ironic part is the original “Jake” was actually a SF employee, the black guy is an actor.
Back on the “plantation”.
Oscar Pope Lift Every BLACK Voice Fellowship.
Ha. Yes, I knew the guy was an actor-fairly decent one too. Didn’t know they actually had a real Jake.
Lawsuit waiting to happen 🤪
Proceed.
I believe this is discrimination.
It's not the 13% of the overall population that matters to the networks, it's the disproportionate percentage of black viewers compared to other demographics.
Television as a medium is dead. It was losing ground to the VCR, then DVDs, then time-shifted viewing with DVDRs, DVRS, TiVos, and the Internet. Streaming solidifies its demise.
Digital advertising, especially mobile ads, surpassed television advertising in 2019 and the gap continues to widen.
