You may be young, and you may be gifted, but if you are not young, gifted, and black, you need not apply for a new on-air position at the NBA on TNT.
On Wednesday, NBA on TNT Social Strategist Victoria McBryde posted a tweet seeking a “young, gifted, and Black” college student for an on-air position connected to the Oscar Pope Lift Every Voice Fellowship.
Lift Every Voice describes itself as “a grassroots initiative centered on empowering the imaginations of Black student journalists.” However, as Outkicks Bobby Burack points out, there’s no shortage of black sports journalists working on TNT’s NBA coverage or in NBA coverage throughout sports journalism.
As Burack writes:
TNT’s top NBA journalist Chris Haynes is black. Three of the four members of TNT’s Inside the NBA pregame show are black. In addition, Turner Sports’ Bleacher Report has made Taylor Rook, a black woman, the face of its brand.
Meanwhile at ESPN, the NBA’s other major partner, seven of the eight members of its pregame program, NBA Countdown, are black. In fact, the Worldwide Leader of Sports has just two former journalists working in opinion roles on ESPN’s NBA bumper programming: Stephen A. Smith and Michael Wilbon, both of whom are black. And Malika Andrews, a black female journalist in her 20s, replaced Rachel Nichols, a white woman, to be the host of ESPN’s signature daily NBA show in the fall.

TNT deserves multiple lawsuits filed against it.
Exactly. Let them self segregate. Who cares.
That old thing? /S
99% of the time I look at a news event video from a local TV station in a city somewhere (usually crime ones---my interest) they show a white woman and a black man at the anchor desk and then cut to a white man or black woman reporting from somewhere. So the population of the US must be 150 million black people out of 330 million?
Can't be right.
Then on to the ads which always show one or more black people. Someone on FR pointed that out a few years ago and I always remember they said that (but sadly forgot the screen name of the first FReeper who said it.)
What’s TNT ?
Eff the NBA
Then they will be able to get 100% of the 13% of Americans that they represent. Good luck with the ratings, filling the stadiums, and continuing to fund the LNBA... er WNBA.
Americans’ obsession with fake sports must end sometime.
Demand the top tier abide by their own rules. Put the “quit” in “Equity”. Resign your position and give it to a POC. Now!
How watches this crap anyway?
How would I know? I don’t watch it. There’s too many interesting things in life to do/see to waste my short time on earth on nonsense.
I think it stands for Turner Network Television.
Well, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If they aren’t worried about violating EOE laws, I won’t either when I hire employees.
Apparently their business plan is to cater to 15% of the population and cover the rest with subsidies from the PRC, whose actual genocide and slavery they will not criticize.
There are laws. This violates them.
Let’s Go Brandon
They’ll have to bring back advertising for menthols.
It’s everywhere. TV commercials are exclusively black actors and if not it’s a black actor with a white spouse. Absolutely bananas for a 13 percent population group.
Does the BET network (Black Entertainment Network) still exist? There’s no need for it anymore.
One interesting item to watch for is Negro men in a commercial with Negro women. Usually the Negro man has a very dark chocolate complexion, and the woman has a much lighter complexion tending toward tan, ambiguously white. Her hair is usually straightened to the extent that any trace of African has been excised. She most definitely won't have George Floyd style lips.
You will never see a very dark complected Negro woman with natural African hair in a commercial. And you will never see her with a light complected, well groomed Negro man. It doesn't happen. Dark complexions on Negro women are taboo on television.
The racism in TV is how hard producers work to make black women resemble white women by way of straight hair, thin lips, and light complexions. The racism is so blatant and yet even the woke crowd is oblivious to it.
