Glenn Youngkin, the Republican Governor-elect of Virginia, will be allowing localities in the state – including cities, counties, and public school systems – to implement mask and vaccine mandates

McAwful was going to add vaccines to the school list for public and private schools. Virginia’s school vaccine statute doesn’t have a religious exemption either during a “declared public health emergency.”

Youngkin is not going to mandate anything.

If a local school goes rogue parents can remove the school boards (most are elected) and/or move their kids to private school.

That option wouldn’t have existed under McAwful. Not to mention there absolutely would have been an “assault weapon” ban put into place by McAwful.

The idiotic, brain dead idiots who think there “is no difference” are either trolling or mentally challenged.

Yep, now go win at the local level. It will also put more pressure on those making decisions at the local level because they know people will challenge them.

The other thing that people don’t understand here is that Virginia is a Dillon rule State (the opposite of Florida).

Local governments CANT impose any local mandate or ordinance unless
the general assembly has expressly delegated that power to them. So local cities and counties can’t impose their own mandates outside of what the law already allows.

If Youngkin doesn’t impose mandates like Northam did, most mandates will fall anyway.

I understand that the moron class doesn’t know the difference between Dillon Rule and Home Rule but it is a point worth bringing up to those that can see why that matters here in the context of what Youngkin said.

Ya hate leftist top-down control everyone politics, but you equally hate right-wing hands-off local control politics.

We hate bottom up tyranny just as much and not preventing it results in exactly the same outcome.

Almost as sane as declaring shoplifting less than $950.00 dollars is not even a crime that will be prosecuted will reduce the rate of imprisonment of criminals.

I don’t think many expected Youngkin to be a Desantis. Once the Deep state reduces you to nothing with rigged elections. Then you are ready to accept their other candidate. Everyone is kept on board and the taxes keep rolling in for the rich. Lol

Agree, this is much better and will give people an option. Which will put pressure on school boards to not mandate. I’m going to be optimistic with Youngkin. He’s much better than McAuliffe, at least we are hopeful he will be. This is not what many would have preferred, but it is a positive move.

Once again fooled into thinking a Conservative was elected, reality another RINO from the Bush wing of the party. No guts, no leadership.

Gosh, Republicans usually wait until they are in office TO COMPLETELY SURRENDER.

I am hopeful as you are, that most, all mandates will go by the wayside. Youngkin may end up being a very good Governor. I sure hope so.

Different subject, but Newport News Ship building said they would not abide by a Biden mandate that their workers be vaccinated. Just saw that today.

Amanda Chase finished runner up to Youngkin to run as Governor for the GOP. She would have been DeSantis on steroids. The establishment boxed her out with Youngkin and Snyder. She’s in the Virginia Senate, if you don’t know.

Pathetic RINO. I don’t have to vote for RINO people yet. Need a truly national conservative organization that runs local candidates and endorses in primaries. Jeb Bush would try to run it - big down side.

I don’t understand your questioning of Abbott. He stopped local school districts of mask mandates, or is there more to the story? I know he has two or three primary challengers, some of whom have statewide recognition. Meanwhile, “Beto” is waiting in the wings for the next “blue wave.”

He can’t run for reelection. He might be hesitant to challenge a Democrat Senator.

In the GOP’s defense, the House will not allow a vote on the filing of impeachment against Biden, Garland, and others.

The Democrats trolls here apparently would have rather had McAwful, who said he would have ordered a Statewide Vaccine Mandate to send kids to school.

Yep. I'm always amazed at how fast FReepers jump to conclusions, most never read past the headlines and many don't show the logic skills of a 3rd grade kid from the DC public school system.

Youngkin won't be in office for another 8-9 weeks but many whiny FReepers already want to impeach him.

I am 100% against making the covid vaccine necessary for schoolkids (covid is not like measles or polio or rubella vaccines which you should get before going to school). But if the people elected through free and fair elections pass rules for their local schools, that’s the way it’s supposed to work. The American way is to elect people who will carry out the will of the people who vote. The problem in Northern Virginia is that for too long, people who think like us haven’t voted and have allowed hardcore leftists to take over school boards and town town councils.
