Trump: Youngkin 'would have lost by 15 points without MAGA'
The Hill ^ | 11/03/2021 | DOMINICK MASTRANGELO

Former President Trump says if he had not supported Virginia Republican Glenn Youngkin, the new governor-elect would have lost by a sizable margin in Tuesday's election.

"I've heard Virginia is blue, but I've never believed it was blue," Trump said during an interview on local radio in Virginia on Wednesday morning, according to Politico reporter Meridith McGraw. "Without MAGA he would have lost by 15 points, more ... instead of giving us credit they say, 'oh he's more popular than [Trump].'"

Youngkin defeated former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) in Virginia's gubernatorial election, thanks largely to a boom in support from suburban voters and higher margins of victory in rural areas that Trump won during the 2020 presidential contest despite losing the state as a whole by 10 points.

He won’t though, it’s his brain wiring. In some people there are just things you need to be able to look past because their positives outweigh them. They won’t change, they can’t. And the definitely can’t “learn”. This leads to the cringeworthy Trump behavior.

I try to look past his infantile bravado and always am cheering him on. It’s kind of fun watching heads explode.

Remember this is from the Hill. They will find a way to turn whatever Trump said into a tone deaf boasting.

"Shut up, Donald. Don’t swerve out of your lane to poison a victory."

Mitch McConnell, is that you?

The GOPe and leftist trolls are on fire today trying to control the narrative.

WTF are you talking about? If an endorsement is worth 15 points minimum, I’d like to buy some shares. Don’t lump me with anti Trumpers. Do I agree with everything he says and does? Nope. Only one entity gets that. And, the way the democommies are behaving, my chances are looking better all the time despite being an ass.

Trump’s endorsements are not always good so you have to check for yourself.

I agree with your assessment. Trump cannot help himself when he is attacked and he was attacked viciously in VA. Obama, Biden, Harris, and McAwful all mentioned Trump over and over. They tried to make this election another referendum on Trump.

Youngkin did a good job of threading the needle, but they got Trump’s dander up and he is gloating today. It was inevitable that Trump would take a victory lap, but the wiser tact would be to enjoy the victory and congratulate Youngkin while softening your image with suburban moms.

It sucks because they are so painful for those of us who support MAGA, but that is the demographic Trump must win over for 2024. No amount of snark by us will change it.

Agreed. As a Virginia resident, I have seen the politics change here drastically over the last 20 years. Youngkin is the kind of Republican that can win in a state like VA. Trump could not win VA. In fact, he underperformed RINOs like GWBush, McCain and Romney here. Not enough blue collar white voters for Trump to be a net positive for Repubs in VA. Tons of suburban white women here who disliked Trump’s style.

Trump baited Fast Terry from Day One. Terry's people took the bait, even though their own internal polling didn't show tying Trump to Youngkin was a slam-dunk.

Behind the scenes, Youngkin's people were in contact with Trump's people. There's no way that "DonaldTrumpDonaldTrump" closer ad comes off without Team Trump input, perhaps even the suggestion.

This was political rope-a-fast-terry-dope at its finest, and it's a blueprint for what can be done elsewhere, particularly in off-year elections.

Jeb! may have been attractive to those not paying attention to the political world closely. To me, it seems that Glenn learned very quickly on the campaign trail. His speech was all about FREEDOM last night.

Nah, Youngkin didn’t sound like a RINO last night, but the doom and gloom Freepers have to complain about every last bit of good news. Maybe those predicting the Dems would steal the election and Youngkin was sure to lose will show up and eat a big plate of crow.

Youngkin didn’t invite Trump to physically campaign with him. So in my minority opinion it wasn’t much of a victory. A moderate squishy R guy won in VA and gave bare lip service to Trump and MAGA in general. Excuse me if I am not on cloud 9 today...

Trump received 300,000 more votes than Youngkin in Virginia just one year ago.

Dear Republicans,
Trump is the Republican party. Unless you change and embrace MAGA and build on that the Republican party is doomed. Youngkin came up short in this regard.

and without the shenanigans of Loundon County he would have lost too and if he ran a crappy campaign he would have lost and if McAuliffe hadn’t said parents have no right to control their kid’s education and on and on.

Let Trump be Trump.

Exactly! If Youngkin actually embraced MAGA his victory would have been a slaughtering landslide.

Yes, I voted for Youngkin and I am happy he won ( beat the steal ) but....

I would have warm fuzzy about Mr. Youngkin if he had invited Trump to campaign with him in person. He didn't do that which is slap in face to Trump and MAGA. Now I fully expect this brush off to be used as a wedge issue to put distance between Trump and the rest of the GOP. This will be exploited by the GOPe ( think Liz Cheney ), Democrats and the MSM the will say "See, Republicans stay away from Trump like Youngkin and you can win". That BS has already started.

By not questioning our politicians, based on speech, is how our Country got entirely discombobulated. My wife taught me to ignore media, in all it’s forms and focus on Executive orders and subsequent reports. Those reports tell you everything. Zero’s speeches excited his base and struck fear into conservatives, but his EO’s we’re wisps of smoke. Thank to my other half I was able to disconnect from the Obama hysteria and realize it was a well crafted illusion. Facts matter to me, what is done matters to me. Anyone can blow smoke up our backsides with words. Words mean nothing, show me action. I am as diligent in this with those of my own party, more so tbh. Nothing now is as it seems.

Trump needs to settle down and let Youngkin enjoy his win. The time for credit and reflection can come in a few weeks.

If you look at the electoral map, Virginia is a red state turned blue by the heavily populated DC suburbs in the northeast part of the state overrun by LEGAL immigrants that vote Democrat in huge numbers.

Fixed it.
