Kyle Rittenhouse repeatedly yawns in court during homicide trial

Kyle Rittenhouse struggled to stay focused and yawned throughout his homicide trial Tuesday in Wisconsin that will decide whether he spends his life behind bars for a triple shooting.

Rittenhouse, 18, let out several yawns as lawyers from both sides prepared to give opening statements in a Kenosha court about him fatally shooting two men and wounding a third during last year’s protests over police brutality.

He yawned often during the proceedings, including when he stood for jurors to enter the courtroom and when his own lawyer began his opening remarks.

The day earlier during jury selection, the teen also couldn’t help himself from yawning.

When you are on trial for homicide, I think it may be a little difficult to get some sleep.

I don’t think it is boredom. The kid is scared silly.

If I were observed hours on end for a murder trial, I wouldn’t yawn. His entire life pretty much rests on his conduct at this point.

Could be a nervousness trait.
Seen several people yawn when they get stressed or are nervous.

That’s what I was thinking. I have a lot of back trouble, and there are times when dealing with it affects my breathing.

Boredom isn’t the main reason people yawn.

So, if he yawns, he’s guilty? Even if the evidence is all exculpatory?

” A lot of jury members want to like the person on trial especially if they think he’s not guilty. He’s not helping. I’m sure some will excuse it.”

Lay off. I have lawyer friends and they had clients on trial who yawn, scratch their asses, smile, laugh, pick their noses and yes! DOZED OFF. Plus more. You’ve been watching too many TV shows where people are supposed to go thru 3 hours thinking their clients cannot move , which is close to impossible.

Even jurors fall asleep. Yep. They have seen it many, many times, even at high profile cases.

Anxiety induced yawning most likely from nervous, short breathing. He just need to take deeper breaths.

Yeah, dogs frequently yawn from stress.
Someone needs to coach him out of this, the fake media is running with it.

Yawning can be an involuntary response to nervousness and pressure. I used to yawn as I was waiting to approach the starting blocks for a 440 race back in HS. It was aggravating.

Stress yawning

When excessive yawning is caused by being anxious, calming yourself down will bring an end to the stress response and its changes. As the body recovers from the active stress response, excessive yawning should subside.

Really needs some coaching from his lawyers, bad optics.

You think his yawning is voluntary? Several things can cause yawning, and boredom is not one of them. If he were rolling his eyes and faking yawns, that would be terrible optics, but that's not what is happening here. He is likely sleeping poorly and feeling a lot of anxiety and stress. I seriously doubt the jurors are interpreting his yawns as boredom or lack of interest.

Anxiety induced yawning most likely from nervous, short breathing. He just need to take deeper breaths.

They are also a common effect of anti-anxiety meds, and considering his situation, he might be taking an SSRI. Or it could be the anxiety, stress, lack of sleep, etc. But the press is running with the cartoon definition of yawning, and painting him as being bored and disinterested.
