California Port Worker Exposes Labor Union for Exascerbating Supply Chain Crisis, ‘Keep Cutting the Work’

A California longshoreman, who works at California’s San Pedro Bay Port Complex, reportedly said the labor unions are exascerbating the supply chain crisis.

Identified as Alfred to Yahoo News, the longshoreman blamed Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) for “cutting the work” at the port, which is increasing the jam of containers stuck at sea and on the docks.

“They’re [PMA] the ones who are not training: skilled positions. [That] means crane operators, top handler drivers, trans drivers,” said Alfred. “They’re the ones who are keeping the ships out there at sea anchored.”

Despite the delays and mounting shipping costs American families and workers are experiencing, Alfred maintained “we have the manpower there, [they] just keep cutting the work.”

Alfred also said there is “not enough space” to offload the containers and stack it on the port, questioning the unions rules that are increasing the backlog. “There are truck drivers that come in and are waiting for a chassis and the company does not allow us to give them it,” Alfred said.

The port backlogs have often been blamed on too few truck drivers. President and CEO of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Chris Spear told CNN last week the industry is short a record amount of drivers, 30 percent.

But a truck driver named Carlos Rameriz told Yahoo News the ports are not releasing containers to the drivers. “It’s been the worst month I ever had. There’s no work. They’re not releasing anything from [the port],” said Rameriz. “That’s what pays my bills.”

Rameriz also said many of the truckers are waiting three hours or longer to enter the port to pick up a container. The drivers are at the “mercy of longshoremen who operate on their own schedule,” Rameriz said.

“Why? I’m not questioning the validity of the claim, but what’s the reason? I’m not seeing who this helps.”

Clearly it’s The Junta who wants this, or they’d quickly put an end to it.

As to why, I suspect that it’s part of the ‘adjustment’ needed for Americans to get used to living a few notches down, where they will no longer have plenty and will live closer to the rest of the non-Western world.

Why do I think it? Because when asked, they respond by saying they don’t see major problems in the country.

” I’m not questioning the validity of the claim, but what’s the reason?”

Same here.

The article makes the assertion and fails to provide substantiation. Or, any attempt is incoherent.

A competent journalist would also contact the Longshoremen and ask for their side of the story.

Why does nobody seem eager to ask the experts? At least then people could judge the answer.

It is intended only to help BeijingBiden’s ongoing plan to destroy American and implement a police state.

Unions fund the DNC (aka America’s communist party) and they, in turn help them. Kinda like Antifa and BLM. Same MOperandi, same result. By design.

This administration does not want to help the US citizenry. Except for the elites, the rest are considered peasants or slaves-to-be. Especially your children.

Nothing will be allowed to temporarily improve until the run up to 2022 mid-terms. At that time some relief will be allowed as sort of a : “See, we told yah, just wait.” After the DNC orchestrates another sham election everything will go down again.
Same thing happened when out here in CaCaLand Newsom avoided recall — with some help from fake mailin ballots. Right after that he implemented some more poisonous directives. Same game will play out in Virginia.

Everything that is happening in the nation today is completely engineered. At this point, that’s not even a ‘conspiracy theory’.

Gov Newsom and the air resource board is 100% at fault by taking trucks off the road. This is a diversion story to blame others.

Aaaaannnd we have ourselves a winnnaaahhh!

OTR trucks in CA must be 2011 or newer.
Owner/Operators are banned in CA.
In 2034 OTR trucks will be all electric; no others will be Registered by the DMV.
So much for any incentive to buy a new tractor.
Trucks must be Clean Idle certified annually.
Not that they are actually allowed to idle; trucks waiting in one spot for longer than a few minutes MUST shut down.

This and other related crap is now an Interstate Commerce issue, which is squarely in the Federal domain.

Some people don’t want others trained because if they have more trained people then they might get less overtime.

So?

The things would STILL get offloaded!

Either by the overtime guys or the new guys.

Unions are feeling their Biden oats. Unions are domestic American enemies. California unions are more dangerous than Kim Jong Un

No, each person added would in theory be working five days. Nobody is working five days worth of overtime week after week.

Hi, Els! The plea in Latin for such a mess is "Dona nobis pacem" (click here) = ("Give us peace").

I see your point, but don’t these ports work around the clock anyway?

For the first time, the Port of Long Beach has achieved all of the 2023 emission-reduction goals outlined in the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan, despite moving record volumes of containerized cargo.

The Port’s annual emissions inventory report found diesel soot is down 90%, smog-forming nitrogen oxides have decreased 62%, and sulfur oxides have decreased 97%, all while container throughput has increased 21%. The pollution levels are all compared to the 2005 baseline, the year before the original San Pedro Bay Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) was adopted. The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners voted today to approve the new "Container Excess Dwell Fee" on ocean carriers designed to speed the flow of cargo from POLB terminals during an unprecedented surge in shipments. The program will begin Nov. 1; penalties will not be assessed until Nov. 15.

From what I have read the answer to that is no. I would assume that some parts of the port work around the clock, but not all do. The reason according to what I read is that there were not enough trucks showing up to be loaded at night, but I also read that truckers were saying the crane operators were not loading trucks in retaliation for complaints and slowing things down on purpose.

Lots of finger pointing and I assume red tape, but the bottom line is that someone is making money off of all of this and that someone or somebody wants to keep it that way.

“Trucks must be Clean Idle ...NOW!”

They have been.
For maybe TEN YEARS.
AND, they are not permitted to sit idling.
If they’re stationary, they’re shut down.

“...there are NOT enough of them!!”

ALL of them are Clean Idle trucks, but — no, there are not enough trucks, and with these crackpot CA enviro regs there’ll be fewer every year until the whole thing collapses.

It is not a “supply chain” crisis, it is an off shoring of US industry crises.

Gov Newsom and the air resource board is 100% at fault by taking trucks off the road.

How?

Show me the Law or EO that has done this.

Make things in the USA again which makes sea ports unnecessary.
