Meghan McCain: 'SNL' parodies made me feel like 'laughing stock of the country'

Meghan McCain says in a new interview that sketches performed on "Saturday Night Live" mocking her during her stint on ABC's "The View" made her feel like she was "the laughing stock of the country."

"I think partly 'Saturday Night Live' parodies have this way of becoming reality. I’ve seen it so many times with Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton. The stereotypes of who you are become true. Bush being an idiot. I still think Alex Trebek is someone who celebrities hated. Sometimes the parody is the person, and I think that probably played a factor, too," McCain said during a question-and-answer session with Rolling Stone promoting her new audiobook. "People really loved it when 'SNL' dunked on me, and it was not flattering or kind. And, by the way, they were pretty nice to the rest of the ['View'] cast, just not great to me."

She should know that stuff like that goes with being a public figure.

I don't feel any need to pile on abuse, though. She has her life. We have ours. And tomorrow we'll have forgotten about this.

I’ve repeatedly tried to watch that show and can’t make it more than a couple of minutes before turning it off.

I’m hard pressed to believe, though, that anyone could’ve captured the calumny of Hillary Clinton or that it could even be parodied. In other words, a parody of Clinton could only make her seem more likeable, not less.

There was obviously a hands-off policy with Hillary on SNL. Alec Baldwin was heavily made up with a comb-over hairpiece in order to portray Trump as a witless buffoon. Hillary was simply Kate McKinnon in a pantsuit and a blonde wig that vaguely resembled Hillary. No extra padding, no wrinkles and no evil shrill Lady Macbeth-like personality. She was simply portrayed as a slim fairly attractive young woman.

I wish I could laugh when I look at her. She makes me angry. And if she shows up on right wing media, I will stop watching it. I don’t care what she says. I don’t normally agree with what she says. And I don’t care what happens to her. And I never liked her parents either.
