A 16-year-old Wyoming high school student was arrested for refusing to wear a mask, resulting in an hour-long school lockdown.
Grace Smith, a Laramie High School student, said in an interview with Wyoming Sen. Anthony Bouchard about her arrest that she had received three separate two-day suspensions. She was also allegedly fined $1,000 for trespassing after she refused to leave the school's premises.
"It makes me angry," Smith said. "It makes me feel unwanted by the school system. It makes me stressed out that I have to fight this battle as a 16-year-old. Right now, I should be playing sports and having fun. And instead, I’m fighting for the rights that were supposed to be won hundreds of years ago."
Bouchard applauded Smith for "standing against Covid Tyranny" and set up a fundraiser on GiveSendGo to help her with "the legal cost of defending her civil liberties and the civil liberties of other students in Wyoming who are enduring the same unlawful treatment." The campaign has raised more than $32,000 as of Sunday afternoon.
"You're what really everybody has to do, and I believe that," Bouchard told Smith in the interview. "I've seen from the beginning of this, everything has been about following orders, it's all about compliance, but I don't really see a real direction we're going in other than making people fit into a mold."
Laramie High School's mask mandate is in place until Oct. 15, at which time school officials will decide if it will be extended.
Yep...she wants the attention. Already has $32,000 in her pot. Let the adults handle this and not some notoriety seeking 1 yr. old. wannabe activist.

Did Rosa Parks ask permission to ride in the front of the bus? She was arrested because they wanted to violate her rights. Can’t be asked to leave a public school unless there is a lawful reason. Can’t be tresspassed unless there is a lwful reason. Asking her to leave because she didn’t have a mask on is not lawful reason.
Had to look that one up.
So she either complies like a good little commie or she gets arrested on the bullshit charge of trespassing in a school that has a legal obligation to educate her?
The Left is fighting the Second Civil War while the Right is hoping to win the midterms.
Well done young lady. She should home school if possible.>>> My first thot as well but my second is she doesn’t need any school or screwel as Rush used to say. She should test out of high school and proceed with her career/education.
So if she had a mask on she wouldn’t be trespassing? Makes sense if you got no sense.
Wind, wind, wind, wind. 30 below just about every morning and WIND. It snows? It goes sideways. I bet they shut down I 80 ten times that winter while I was there.
Never got to find out what summer was there and did not care.
Got me a good pair of warm swampers (snow packs) there at the western store just outside of town though. Over where the Wally World store is.
I used to travel the road that came up from Ft Collins. I really liked that little church at the bottom of the hill halfway up on that road. Reminded me of the song “Three Bells” for some reason.
Dont remember the number of that highway. The tracks from the old overland route you could see at one of the roadside stops there.
Trespassing seems more serious for some folks. Thinking Rio Grande valley trespassers.
So it’s okay then?
Just put your widdle mask on and take your nappie. This young woman wants to live. Let her.
Masks don’t work. Science tells us that.
She wasn’t criminally trespassed until she refused the LEO notice of trespass. Had she left the property, she would not have been arrested.
Actually it is a lawful reason. The school is restricted public property - it is not open to the public. The school gets to set the restrictions on who can and can not be on the property.
False Dichotomy - there was at least one other option, simply leave when told to do so.
Either mask on or leave the school when told to do so by the LEO.
Ok???? That is a highly subjective response and depends on the attitude of the person responding. So lets look at a more objective question. Was it lawful?
Lawful, yes. She was on restricted public property (school) that had set a requirement to be on that property. Schools are not open to the public. Yes there are exterior areas that the public is allowed to access but the school proper is restricted access.
When she did not comply with that lawful requirement (making), law enforcement was called and responded, and informed her of that requirement. The LEO gave her the option of leaving the property to avoid the arrest. She then CHOSE to remain, after being lawfully trespassed and when she did, she crossed over into an illegal act of criminal trespass.
The arrest was lawful.
