SCOTUS Just Made Huge Ruling Affecting Elections
Populist Press ^ | 10/04/2021

The Supreme Court on Monday turned away an appeal by Washington, D.C., residents over their lack of voting rights in Congress.

The justices’ move affirmed a lower court ruling that held that D.C. residents are not entitled to voting representation in the U.S. House.

In a brief unsigned order Monday, the justices indicated their ruling was based on a Supreme Court decision from more than two decades ago that found that Washingtonians do not have a constitutional right to a vote in Congress.

Two of the court’s more conservatives justices — Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch — indicated they would have dismissed the appeal based on their view that the court lacked jurisdiction over the dispute.

D.C. has a delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton (D), who is not authorized to vote on legislation on the House floor.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear an appeal by DC residents seeking a voting member in the House of Representatives.

The Supreme Court previously ruled DC residents do not have a constitutional right to a vote in Congress.

DC was never meant to be a place where people permanently reside, but the left has been pushing for statehood and representation anyway.

11 residents of DC previously challenged the District’s nonvoting status and the Supreme Court on Monday affirmed a ruling from a 3-judge panel.

A lower court rejected their argument earlier this year and said DC residents don’t live in a state therefore should not be given a member of Congress.

“Residents of the District of Columbia are the only adult American citizens subject to federal income taxes who lack voting representation in Congress, except for felons in some states,” the plaintiffs told the Supreme Court in a brief.

It may effect elections in that particular state.
I don’t think there are many similar situations across the country.

That was the whole POINT of having Washington is the first place!

The folks who live for and work for the government should NOT have ANY say in how the government works or spends tax dollars!

It’s not prejudice, racism, or anything other than common sense!

"Nothing is stopping the POC from moving to Maryland."

They already have - decades ago.
Prince Georges County, MD is nothing but DC in Maryland.

““Residents of the District of Columbia are the only adult American citizens subject to federal income taxes who lack voting representation in Congress” the plaintiffs told the Supreme Court in a brief.”

There are about 78 Million Trump voters that also don’t feel they have a vote that counts.

the court lacked jurisdiction over the dispute...

Exactly correct!

Washington DC is technically it's own state, in a fashion similar to the city of London and the Vatican. In fact, the three "city states" are part and parcel of the military, financial and spiritual sectors of the Deep State Cabal.

There are two other city-state-like locations that I think are hard to define - Disneyland and Disneyworld. BOTH are the only entities within the US, besides DC, that have permanent FAA TFR's above them.

Now shut down the DC city government!
It's unconstitutional anyway.
The US Constitution give the US government
exclusive control of the city of Washington DC.

While I agree with the ruling overall, how does this bit make any sense? DC is governed by Congress, it fully falls under FedGov, so in what way is SCOTUS not over their jurisdiction? They aren't a State - they only go through the Fed courts. The only way this makes sense is if the appeal skipped the district/circuit courts or something?

DC is not its own State, it is governed by Congress directly. Which makes it part of FedGov, and certainly under the jurisdiction of SCOTUS, although maybe not originally.

They don’t have to live in DC:

Many neighborhoods within Washington, D.C. city limits offer access to Metro trains or buses. However, the often higher price tag on homes and the noisiness of city life has many potential homeowners looking toward the suburbs. In the D.C. metro area, that doesn’t mean you’re destined for a long commute.

This is only partially true.

The DC delegate can vote in committee, where bills go to live or die. They cannot vote for the final legislation.
