White House press secretary Jen Psaki picked up where President Joe Biden left off Monday in hammering Senate Republicans for blocking Democratic efforts to raise the debt ceiling before the October 18 deadline.
'This is a period of time where we could easily solve this in the next two days, and easily do that through allowing Democrats to be the adults in the room, despite the fact that Republicans spent like drunken sailors for the last four years before President Biden took office,' Psaki said at the afternoon press briefing.
Earlier, Biden lashed out at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his caucus, saying their actions were 'hypocritical, dangerous and disgraceful,' because they've objected when Democrats have tried to pass a debt ceiling bill.
Republicans are trying to force Democrats into using reconciliation - which bypasses the Senate filibuster - to bump up the debt ceiling, while the White House is demanding that the GOP simply not filibuster the already-passed House debt ceiling bill.
'What is happening in the Senate right now is Senate Democrats have proposed that they would, they would do all the votes to raise the debt limit. They are happy to be the adults in the room,'
Psaki said. 'They are not even asking Republicans to vote for it at this point. We know they're unwilling to be the adults in the room.'

Not a pretty picture
yeah, what she said. the dems want to spend like drunken sailors. stop getting in the way
Being impressed into service by illegal means?
If there WERE adults in DC, you, Obama, Biden, Kamala, Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, Swalwell and many others would be tried for treason...and hanged. But, you are right, there are too few adults in the room.
Tiresome shell game
We had something to spend then. Inflation wasn’t eating up our money faster than we can make it. Between inflation and government spending we will be broke about the same time the government goes broke.
The parliamentarian says Democrats can lift the debt limit without derailing Biden’s agenda, no Republican votes required. - nymag
If the problem is profligate Republican spending then the solution should be to cut that unnecessary spending, not spending more.
Look at Obama’s spending for 8 years.
.
Tell us how much Joe Biden has spent per day!
Per day!

Gas-lighter in Chief,
Her make-up has cracked and is starting to flake.
The worst insults Democrats seem to have is blaming Republicans for being just like them.
She needs to go review some charts. The rate of debt increase under Trump was the same rate as under Obama. Then under the COVID shutdown, the rate skyrocketed. That’s on Fauci.
Hey here’s an unpopular opinion. She’s right. Doesn’t matter who is in power — we ALWAYS spend too much. Trump was almost as bad as Biden in that regard. He did nothing reduce the deficit that i could see.
Of course Biden is adding trillions in entitlements. The gift that keeps on giving.
Like 3.5 Trillion isn’t abundant rum on the lips of sea dogs?
I think Psaki should apologize to all drunken sailors. They at least get what they paid for with THEIR money. I can’t say the same for what the Dems pay for with MY money. Besides I think drunken sailors get a better bargain and bang for their buck than what I’m getting.
What’s the old line:
When I was a sailor, I quit spending when I ran out of money.
This country would be in great shape if more people and our government spent like drunk sailors.
She is right, they never turned Pelosi down one dime.
Absolutely she is right on the prev administration spending.
but she wants to spend even more because she and her party are adults, and adults have better spending wisdom than “drunken sailors”
Thats hardly a ringing endorsement of Trump. We hired him to cut spending. He didn’t.
