ROME, Italy — Over 750,000 Italians have signed a petition for a public referendum on legalizing euthanasia, guaranteeing its presence in the next national elections, local media reported this week.
The three-quarters of a million signatures collected so far comfortably surpass the 500,000 needed to force an Italian referendum on the issue, and observers suggest the referendum could be voted on as early as next year.
Italy, which has the oldest population of any country in Europe and the second oldest population in the entire world, may soon legalize an escape chute for those wishing to unburden family members or the state. Even for those who do not wish it, the pressure to “do the right thing” will be substantial.

Part of why COVID never bothered me was because we are all going to die, and although death is certainly “sad” I just don’t see it as a “problem”. Tyrannical government and the loss the freedom? Now, that’s a problem.
It’s a dystopian world we live in. Prohibitions against free speech and association, forced vaccinations, threats and rumors of concentration camps, and now forced euthanasia (state sponsored murder). Absolute insanity reigns supreme.
Italy is one of the few countries where longevity exists.

If you leave it to your idiot politicians, they’ll eliminate the old (White) folks, and bring in millions of young, fertile individuals who won’t have to work and will have adequate time to fertilize their 4 wives and populate the country.
To set things straight, ITALY isn’t looking to euthanasia to solve its problems. SOME ITALIANS are. The actions of some individuals aren’t the action of the collectivity.

This is a serious problem.
I have heard discussions on Father Spitzer’s Universe (a radio show on EWTN Catholic stations nationwide.)
He is staunchly politically conservative. He referenced more than once the Scandinavian beginning incidents of “non voluntary assisted suicide” in which the hospital and health plan board figures out-—NOT the person or their family——when a person is costing too much to the taxpayers to go on living (in essence). Called “quality of life” in which they make the decision a person has sounded “depressed” and “hopeless” and thus is given the verdict of being shut off from further medical help or machines and given an injection to kill them (!)
One case nurses elsewhere heard the screams and yelling of an old woman saying “No, I don’t want to die. Don’t do it. I want to live.” Later she was taken away to the morgue. They were told the woman had been held down and injected.
Father Spitzer said this all violates the true respect for human life at both ends, the baby’s first life as a zygote but then being killed in abortion, and the elderly person’s declining health and wants to go on living but is euthanized. Both wrong.

It’s a tough situation. I’ll never forget going to see my aunt in a nursing home and seeing this woman in a wheelchair in front of the nurses station rocking backing and forth drooling all over herself. Had no idea where she was or even who she was. Why on earth should she be forced to live that way??????? I do not want to end up like that!

I’m old enough to remember when Italy was Catholic. I’m also old enough to remember when the Catholic Church was against killing old people.
