So why did the Trigger-Happy Capitol Hill cop come out?
American Thinker ^ | 08/27/2021 | Monica Showalter

After months of supposed hiding, the Capitol Hill cop who shot unarmed pro-Trump protestor Ashli Babbitt at the Capitol, Lt. Michael Byrd has come out of the woodwork to talk about his shooting, in a softball interview with NBC's Lester Holt.

Which is weird stuff, given that for months his identity had been concealed, by investigators, Congress, and other supposed watchdogs, on the grounds that revealing it to angry Trump supporters was too dangerous, and whose investigative conclusions excused him from accountability.

Now he's come out -- telling Lester Holt of his great heroics. He doesn't even need to, having been exonerated repeatedly.

The most likely reason is this lawsuit, and these efforts by Babbitt's family to get answers:

Babbitt’s family is suing for the identity of the officer to be publicly released but so far that effort has not borne fruit. They are also filing a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit, claiming the officer didn’t issue a verbal command according to the Washington Examiner.

A lawsuit would concentrate anyone's mind, even in the name of his agency, making it quite likely that he would think of preparing a defense.

It's a typical lawyer tactic, when it can be done and a judge doesn't slap it down, to try to sway public opinion, particularly when a defense is weak

Holt, who's no stranger to political water-carrying, would be the perfect such vehicle.

The problem here is that the effort has probably already backfired.

Byrd, who makes north of $100,000 a year as a Capitol Police lieutenant, comes off as a dumb goober, a flatfoot in any other police department, a classic Parkinson's law case of a man promoted to his level of incompetence.

After all, he has a history of mishandling weapons

The odds are VERY MUCH against any DC jury finding in favor of a Trump supporter against a black defendant.

It’s a potential win/win for the Left. They get to parade this guy around as a hero with the complicity of the media, and, if he gets smoked, they get a martyr.

One wonders if he’s thought all this out.

Yeah - this whole thing was just like the FBI sniper killing that family at Ruby Ridge and the FBI setting the fire that killed over 90 men, women and children at Waco. Nothing.

[...] a classic Parkinson's law Peter Principle case of a man promoted to his level of incompetence.

Parkinson's law is the adage that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". It is sometimes applied to the growth of bureaucracy in an organization. - Wikipedia

The Peter Principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter, which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to their "maximum level of incompetence": employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another. - Wikipedia

Cut from exactly the same cloth as the Somali savage dressed as a policeman in Minnesota who shot an unarmed white woman in cold blood.

My first thought as well....

The man is SO BRAVE. We need him to single-handedly hold off the Taliban at the Kabul Airport.

Because he had to flaunt the “racist” card for what he said scared him (yeah that is a motivation for “police” action, self preservation)-— that the “rioters” called him, HIM personally the N word. Question is, would he have shot a black female unarmed with a Trump hat on? Would he?

This incompetent clown of a campus cop has many years of proven recorded incompetency (including LOSING his firearm!)

A stupid man, doing anything the demonrat machine tells him in the Capitol Tammany Hall building— including murder.
He is a murderer and the civil rights case against him will be a verdict of guilty— and major consequences for his idiotic loyalty to Nantzi and her clown princes. The BLM justification for killing a white person-—”they called me a bad name” (one they use for each other in the black urban US lingo... all the time self demeaning as being “cool”. What a stupid little nothing).

He came out because it’s time for him to cash in on his murder of a white, female, Air Force veteran who was unarmed. I’m sure the Professional Victims Society is already setting up the payoffs.

Not knowing all the details of this, I’ll await the results of the civil trial. However, I assure everyone the case cannot possibly be a slam dunk like the author implies. This capitol police lieutenant is a member of at least two protected classes: a black man and a Democrat.

What strikes me more is the obvious difference between how the left treats people. There is no longer equality under the law in America. Sorry to say it, but the left covers for their own while using every instrument of government power against the right.

Consider what would have happened had a white officer shot a black BLM “non-violent protestor” in similar circumstances? We’d have that officer fired and incarcerated without bail pending trial on murder charges.

This guy’s ass should have been suspended and he should have been prosecuted after the first review of his actions.

There were ARMED SWAT officers right behind the group smashing through the doors, and just moments before ARMED OFFICERS voluntarily stepped aside to allow the protesters to attack the doors. Lt. Byrd saw all of this.

There was NO JUSTIFICATION for Lt. Byrd to fire when he did. NONE.

It's the Peter Principle. Not "Parkinson's Law"
