Meat wars: why Biden wants to break up the powerful US beef industry Both the planet and US politics have heated up in tandem over recent decades, but few sectors have stewed in controversy quite like America’s beef industry. Four super-powered meatpackers control more than 80% of the US beef market, an extraordinary concentration of market power that the Biden administration is not happy about. A recent executive action signed by the president aims to increase competition in the beef industry, with the White House noting that, over the past five years, “farmers’ share of the price of beef sales has dropped by more than a quarter – from 51.5% to 37.3% – while the price of beef has risen”. But how were the big four meatpackers able to capture so much of the US beef processing capacity? They had help. When explaining the history of consolidation in US meatpacking, it is normal to begin in the age of Upton Sinclair’s 1906 novel The Jungle. In the wake of Sinclair’s muckraking exposé on the industry of the time, Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Federal Meat Inspection Act, aimed at cleaning up the meat supply for consumer health and challenging the nearly unrestricted power of these players.

I can contribute as I do electric distribution design.
My wife came home tonight from Walmart and said a pork loin was $50.

Great to get a Reagan reference to keep us on an even keel.
Also like the meme of a woman at her aging mother's hospital bedside. Obama has entered, smiling, wearing a surgeon's gown. "Mother, this is Doctor Obama. He's here to help you and is taking over your health care."
I thought they were masses of people fighting over the good things in life due to the Communist system. I know they allowed semi-capitalist millionaires and of course the Communist political elites to do well but are the regular Chinese rich enough for steak dinners?
And if the average person is really doing great then maybe the BLM,AOC, Gus Hall or Black Panthers and CPUSA types were right all along? (No, I don't believe it but want to have this explained to me, please.)

Enact Thomas Massie’s PRIME act.
Doesn’t China control something similar for our pork supply?
Yet, she still lives on the interweb.
Smithfield is Chinese owned. JBS is Brazilian owned, then there is the other parts of the meat cartel-—Tyson, Cargill, Hormel
How about the government quits trying to “help” everyone!? When the government “helps” it benefits the politically connected elite.
Do the Chinese own the plants near you?
"Let them eat bugs!!!!"
The Left’s goal is to spread their misery around.
Whenever I see Biden is involved I know it’s not going to end well. I am sure this is to insure LBTQ and Racial diversity.

“In the wake of Sinclair’s muckraking exposé on the industry of the time”.
Where to begin. Sinclair’s NOVEL was a fictional work in support of communism and contained no muckraking or expose because he made it all up.
Nevertheless, the resulting federal takeover of meat inspection and slaughterhouse regulations is what has cause the leviathan meatpacking cartel.
The fix is really simple, turn regulation back over to the states and authorize all veterinarians to do the animal health inspections and the local county health inspectors to handle the rest.
Boom shaka laka, a million small processors will bloom and thrive and so will the producers who provide the animals.
CAFO’s will fade away.
Food shortages and rationing in 3... 2... 1...
One more industry collapse to blame on Trump.
I know the difference between beef cattle and dairy cows, but am not sure POSOTUS does. Probably doesn’t matter to him as long as he gets his double scoop cone each day.
The 5 largest pork producers/processors worldwide are all Chinese, and Smithfield appears to be 3x the size of its largest competitors in the US:
